Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know there is a sticky thread here for books but i thought that this needed a separate one. Are there any good books out there about the Defence Forces? Any including Irish involvement with the UN would be great as well. thanks.

Seige at Jadotville is not a book on the defence forces itself but about an event that occured with an irish battlion in the congo during the crisis there .It was published about 5 years ago

Also ' Blue berets ' is an account of the UN contingent in Lebanon .
It's probably out of date but might be found in scond hand book shops or perhaps there might be a new edition that can be ordered at Easons or other book shops

There's another one called the Battle at Jadotville on the same topic too.

Is this for enjoyment or a project?

I read a good book a while back called Sheep,****e and Soldiers by Michael McDonough. Basically its about a week in the life of a young officer in the Curragh Camp in 1951.

There is another book called tough at the top and deals with the authors ( who's name escapes me ) often hillarious own expierences as a soldier in the curragh camp during the 50s and 60s .
