As expected, Sony did announce a new model of the Reader:

Not a massive difference from the PRS-505 that is on sale here but it does seem to have gained some iRex iLiad features, having a touch screen (swipe to turn pages) and supporting note taking.

Of course, the PRS-505 was out in the US for over a year before they started selling it in the UK and Ireland just last month, so it could be ages before we see this model over here...

You can get a replacement cover which is front-lit for the PRS-505 from Waterstones

I just got mine this week and it is pretty impressive.

Yeah I was looking at getting one of those too. Waterstones didn't have any in stock when they brought the Reader in last month. Which one did you get yours from and for how much if I may ask?

How readable are pdf on the sony ereader. I have a ton of technical ebooks and was thinking of getting a PRS-700 Reader .

PRS-700 isn't on sale yet and it may not be for awhile in Europe, we'll have to wait and see. PRS-505 is on sale here in Waterstones and Xtravision - very similar to the 700 except for the differences I noted in the first post.

As for how easy it is to read PDFs on it, I think it does boil down to personal preference - I agree with Bedlam here that a 6" is a bit too small for PDF, but on the other hand, I've been surprised by the PRS-505's handling of PDFs and find them easy to read (all technical stuff too) and I'm perfectly happy with it. It might be ideal for you, but maybe not, it's impossible to tell.

There was a lot more discussion on this and various opinions in this thread:

I got it online from Waterstones and it cost €51 with shipping.

Peats have it on their website for €52 + shipping of €14.

Thanks. Didn't know Peats stocks them too. I'll just call into Peats on Parnell then and the Jervis Waterstones - they're both close enough.
