Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have a couple of machines on the network both running Win XP SP3 when you go to shutdown there is only the option to log off user, the shutdown and restart options are not available I followed the tips from Microsoft but neither of these have worked (1st being displaying in classic mode and allowing shudown 2nd being changing local user policy.

    Any one got any ideas?

    Cheers

    Andy

Are the machines part of an active directory domain?

The Group Policy for the domain can set a list of users given shutdown rights which overrides the Local policy.

Has the user permission to open a command prompt?
If so, what happens if you type in "shutdown -s" while using their login.

    Hi,

Yes the machines are part of a network using active directory

There is no group policy that should disable the function just for two machines.

When you type Shutdown -s in a command prompt the message "a required privilege is not held by the client

    Thanks for your help

There's a bug in the shutdown command.

Can you download the program accesschk from the Sysinternals site?

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/0e18b180-9b7a-4c49-8120-c47c5a693683.aspx

If you run "accesschk -a *" it should give you a list of who should have the shutdown privileges.

In particular the entries for: (defaults listed below.)

    SeRemoteShutdownPrivilege:
    BUILTIN\Administrators

    SeShutdownPrivilege:
    BUILTIN\Backup Operators
    BUILTIN\Power Users
    BUILTIN\Users
    BUILTIN\Administrators
