    Barclays Premier League
    Ewood Park
    Saturday October 4th 2008
    KO - 17:30 GMT Setanta Sports 1

Blackburn (from): Brown, Robinson, Bunn, Nelsen, Samba, Ooijer, Warnock, Emerton, Olsson, Tugay, Derbyshire, Santa Cruz, Villanueva, Fowler, Andrews, Fowler, Grella, Treacy, Pedersen.

Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Amos, Neville, Brown, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Ronaldo, O'Shea, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs, Nani, Tevez, Berbatov, Rooney, Welbeck.

Rooney is a major doubt for this one, Carrick, Scholes and Hargreaves are all missing due to injuries.

Manchester United have managed just one win at Ewood Park in their last eight visits since 1999; that being 0-1 on 11 November 2006 when Louis Saha got the winner.

Lets hope we can come away with the 3 points tomorrow.

Usually Id be nervous before this fixture, but thank Christ that Brad Friedel isnt with Blackburn anymore.

United are still capable of winning this really

    VDS
    Brown---Rio---Vidic---Evra

    Fletch---Ando
    Ronaldo
    Park
    Tevez

    Berbatov

The defense needs to tighten the oul screws, they looked dodgey at times in the last match. But other than that I'm not terribly worried to be quite honest.

    (No word eating please!!!)

I don't think anyone in there right mind would disagree - of course they are capable they are capable of beating any team the world over,
I just don't think right now that blackburn are the team for them to get a result against
    who knows could paste them

I think United are going to win this handy today.

It is a very good thing that 55 Fingers Friedel has departed, he certainly has been a one man wall against United in recent times.

United always defended badly under Hughes Blackburn thou, he was always happy enough to let United hammer away and then catch them on the break with a counter goal. I think they have been lucky in some matches, but they always seem to make there attacks count.

When they beat United in 2005 at Old Trafford 2-1, United had up around 30 shots at goal only getting 7 or 8 on target, Blackburn I remember had 10 strikes at goal and had 10 on target.

Similarly the return leg at Ewood, Blackburn ended up 4-3 winners, going on just those 2 matches it was alot more than Friedel being the scorge of United.

As we all know it is a very different looking Blackburn now, I think Bentley and Friedel are huge losses. United have hit a small bit of form, the back 5 which was a big part of there success last season needs to steadied.

I see this as a United win, not easy thou. 1-3.

    VDS
    --Neville---Ferdinand---Vidic
    Evra-
    Fletcher---Anderson
    --Ronaldo
    Tevez
    Park--
    Berbatov

will almost certainly be the team I think.

Our front 4 is top top class, and will have a very nice balance I think in it too.

Big big big performances needed today from Fletcher and Anderson.
Fletcher needs not only to hussle and bussle, but really get stuck in and win the ball back.
Anderson needs to not only win the ball back, but set the tempo, make the simple Scholes passes, make driving runs forward to create space, but most importantly, to always be availible to pass to.

I think he can do all of those without a doubt, except the last one, as I'm not sure his movement is quite good enough to be a world class central midfielder [his future is as an attacking midfielder I think].

Big performances needed from them today, but I think we'll get some.

i think Anderson's probolem is fitness. He seems to fade towards the end of games.

he's more of a meme than ronaldo!

his biggest problem is decision making. He doesn't seem to have a brain on his head. Lots of raw talent but he doesn't know what to do with it.

it wouldnt suprise me to see ryan giggs in the centre today

hope not but I have a bad feeling

Lets hope not. I love Giggsy, he's a great impact sub. But starting central middfielder in the Premier League he is not.

Giggs adds a bit of creativity, but against a premiership midfield, he's not strong enough anymore. He's fine against ****e teams though.

Anderson is still wrecked after the Olympics I think, but over the last 2 weeks I think he's gotten better.

I'd be disappointed to see Giggs in there today.

    ?!?!?!?

He's 20, man! The Olympics were over a month ago, and he hasn't even been starting most matches since then! If anything he should be sharper than most, since he had a rather intense pre-season

If he's fubar already, then that's worrying

I dunno what's up with him, he has been looking better recently though

He essentially had little to no summer holiday. As such, its no surprise he's wrecked. 20 years olds aren't magically things, if anything, they've yet to develop fully. He still runs his heart out, but its no surprise that his touch isn't as good as it normally is etc, his legs are just tired.

Fergie then rushed him into the team, 5 hours after a 20 hour flight because we were desperate. And he did relatively well (creating the opportunity for the Liverpool goal), but was clearly wrecked. Then he got rested a little, and since then, he's been better.

Best thing that couldve happened for Anderson was Scholesy getting injured. I think he will really come into his own this season, he has all the qualities, has been looking like he is coming into form lately and has a team full of running and passing around him.

I expect him to have a good game today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I think we'll see Anderson on the left wing, Ronaldo on the right, Rooney behind Berbatov.

Shocked but somewhat happy that Brown is starting.

    Anderson
    Fletcher
    Ronaldo
    Giggs
    Rooney

    Or maybe

    VDS
    Brown

    Brown
    Ferdinand
    Vidic
    Evra

    Fletcher
    Giggs
    Ronaldo
    Anderson
    Rooney

    Berbatov

    It'll be this

    VDS
    Brown
    Ferdinand
    Vidic
    Evra

    Fletcher
    Giggs
    Ronaldo
    Anderson
    Rooney

    Berbatov

unless Fergie goes absolutely nuts, and does this

    VDS
    Brown
    Ferdinand
    Vidic
    Evra

    Fletcher
    Giggs
    Ronaldo
    Rooney
    Anderson

    Berbatov

    ---

I'd be very surprised if Giggs isn't in central midfield.

Not sure really...... Should we not have a dominant midfielder in the centre, ie. Andersonsonson? Giggs sure aint that, and I'd say Fletch will be advised to get forward

Scholes, Carrick and Hargreaves are all injured- what midfielder do you suggest we put in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I'm not suggesting what I'd like, just what Fergie will probably do. He doesn't see Giggs as a winger anymore, he's said that.

Fletcher and Giggs in the middle is balanced enough, and Anderson will add some guile to the attack, while dropping into the middle if needed.

eh... Anderson... like I suggested...? And have someone else on the wing... Not that Giggs or Rooney are ideal wingers, but I'd sooner sacrifice a wing than the centre of the midfield

Ustream really is the shizzle. No software needed and fantastic quality.

No Robbo in nets for Rovers. Unlucky for United!
