Problem With whirlpool washing machine

I have a 3 year old whirlpool washing machine GBAWO3560.

When switched on it does not run the cycle. The clock that displays the remaining time in the cycle is on and will decrement.

There are no obvious indicators that the cycle is attempting to start.

The door door will phyically close but the door locked indicator light is not coming on either and the door can be opened immediately after switching the cycle off.

Any help or suggestions as to what can be happening is greatly appreciated.
    P.

Micro switch/door sensor could be faulty

Any luck with this as we had the same problem. We had a Whirlpool Technician look at it and he said it was the switch and proceeded to order the parts from Italy. Neither ourselves nor Whirlpool Ireland could contact him for weeks on end and finally after more than 6 weeks he phoned out of the blue to say the parts had arrived. By then we had replaced the machine with a non Whirlpool related item.

It not really a big job if you can get good access to the switch - changing it over is the easy bit - its the access is the problem sometimes.
I recently got a belt for a tumble drier from http://www.bec-components.co.uk/

They are handy for parts, good decent pricing, 3-4 days delivery......
