I am running Peer Guardian 2 and So far today, "MediaSentry" has appeared over 4000 times trying to connect to my bittorrent port:eek:

    Should I be concerned?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaSentry
MediaSentry is an American company that provides services to the music recording, motion picture, television, and software industries for locating and identifying IP addresses that are engaged in the use of online networks to share material in a manner said organizations claim is in violation of copyright.

That doesn't sound good. Find out where it is and remove it.

    Why is it appearing?

Do you not get it, you are torrenting so they are illegally targetting you with a scan.

Don't feel you're safe just because you're using PeerGuardian. As long as you're connected to a BT tracker or using DHT they can see your IP address.

    Does PG2 block these scans?

    What exactly are they?

Not sure about the illegal part. if your downloading your broadcasting your IP address and port for all to see. All peer guardian does is block them from connecting to that port.

    They are not scanning.

What they do is host the very stuff you are downloading on very fast
servers. So when you connect to the tracker, it sees these servers and
    gets the data from them.

But the data is corrupt. They purposely host the this type of data to
try and disrupt your downloading as much as possible. In essence you could
be downloading something that is say 1gig in size but by the time your
torrent program has identified all the sources of bad data you might already
have downloaded 2/3 gigs of bad data.

They most likely record your IP address also. If peer guardian doesn't block
them the first time round, your torrent program will eventually block them
on a file by file basis.
