Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hooked iPod to stereo but can't hear anything

Stupid question this but it's been bugging me for ages. Bought a Sony CMT-NE3 mini sound system in 2005. A couple of years later, I bought an iPod and a Belkin device designed to both charge the MP3 player and feed sound from iPod to stereo speakers. I hooked it up, placing the relevant red and white leads in the red and white sockets marked 'MD' on the back of the stereo but there's no sound. You can see tracks playing, if you press the Play button of the iPod, but you'll get no sound. I've tried pressing 'Tape', 'CD', and 'Tuner' as well as 'Display', 'Bass/Treble' and 'DSGX'.
What am I doing wrong? I'm lumbered with an expensive charger:confused:

if the sockets are marked MD, you have to select MD on the stereo itself. you didn't mention that with the other inputs (Tape, CD, Tuner) you tried.

    Adam,
Thanks for that but for the life of me, I can't see a button marked 'MD'. I'm just gonna hassle them in the Sony shop in town till I get an answer...
    Thanks again!

on your remote should be a button marked "FUNCTION" keep pressing that until it says MD on the front of the stereo and then you should be sorted

    Hi,

A few have this trouble so don't feel alone.
The out put on i-pods is low and you generally need a device (dock) that is supplied with a remote so you can turn the volume uuup.
    Thats my experience anyway
    hope this helps

    Cheers

It's not that low in fairness, you would hear something. My guess is that if there isn't an MD function anywhere on the AMP that this is more likely an OUTPUT to an MD recorder which makes that connection an output ? What do ye think ?

Try plugging a cable direct from the iPods headphone socket into another input like the CD or Tuner etc.

Is there not an AUX output? That is normally the one for an external device.

Wouldn't it need to be an INPUT ?

Big_Moe / Adam is correct. The MD sockets are indeed an auxiliary input. See Page 21 of the manual, which is available here: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=CMTNE3

told y'all, it helps when you know the stereo! hook it up to the MD input at the back and then just keep pressing Function until it displays MD on the stereo

One more thing to try with any ipod add-ons.

I bought various ipod accessories over the past 2 years and the odd one doesn't work until you reset the ipod.

I have done this a few times now, with success each time a new accessory has failed to work with my ipod.

You can do a soft-reset of your ipod- it's safe and you shouldn't lose anything at all.

To do the soft-reset hold in the middle button (the round one in the middle of the click wheel) and at the same time hold the menu button down.. hold them both together for about 5 seconds until the apple logo appears on the display.

Worth a try if all else has failed.. and worked for me
