Came across these charts about 6 months ago that show the synoptic outlook for the North Atlantic region from the European Centre of Medium Range Forecasts (ECMWF) courtesy of The Icelandic Met Office.

    http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/atlantic/#teg=prec

Forecasts include 850hpa temps, Rainfall, Pressure and Wind; quite detailed too, in that they are in 6hr increments, rather than the usual 24hrs, post 76hrs that are more generally available.

Pressing the right arrow key on your keyboard will animate the charts to your own speed for convenience.

Having tested it over the last while, it is frightningly accurate with regards rain/temp/pressure even at its outer reaches, and it is the same model our own Met Eireann uses.

So hopefully these charts will give you a taste of what to expect on the RTE Weather forecasts before you even see them. ;):pac:

They are updated twice a day (around 8.30pm and 8.30am) in accordance to the ECMWF Home Site.

Hopefully we will see a lot more blues come the winter on them charts, because what is forecast over the next few days is not encouraging for weather fans*:

That is a good link. Here's another one for more general interest, the Canadian government weather site. You can drool over real winter weather reports for the next six months if Europe fails to excite.

    http://weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca

Maps are update every six hours, the more limited area maps end to the west of Ireland but a hemispheric map (which loads about four hours after each of 00, 06, 12 and 18z) will cover your sector and so do the upper air charts which show up about 2h 30 min after 00z and 12z. These could be some of the earlier upper air charts available on the net in storm situations for you to consider.

PM me if you have problems finding what you would like to find on this site, and perhaps I can help you.
