Washing machine - smelly clothes

My washing machine is about 5 years old and recently find the clothes are slightly smelly (musty) after wash.

I use the same washing tablets etc as usual and don't leave the clothes in it for ages after a wash cycle is finished.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem. I have cleaned out the filter already.

There have been a few posts here on this in the past.

Basically a lot of it is due to modern low temperature (especially liquid) detergents leaving a slimy soapy residue in parts of the machine. This collects and fosters the growth of moulds and bacteria. Favourite places being the soap tray (remove this and give it a thorough clean, also the area behind where it pulls out) and the folds of the door seal between the door opening and the drum (just get in there with a cloth / paper towels).

In addition to the above, every now and then run an empty wash at the highest temperature available, with a cup of white vinegar put into the detergent dispenser tray.
