Hope this is allowed ! Mods?

I posted this over in adverts, but I thought I'd lob it in here too for more coverage.

I'm on the look out for a Hilux Surf, preferably '98 or newer. If any of ye spot any in garages or wherever please let me know.
There are a few on carzone etc, but none that suit.

    Thanks !

There is a place on the corner of the nass and longmile road that does a lot of japanese imort 4x4's but I'm not sure if he has any, worth a try though. If not would you be interested in importing from japan yourself, it seems to be very easy. There are loads of posts about it in the motors forum, postivie experiences etc. This site seems to be very good,
    http://www.japaneseusedcars.com/

I'm looking into it myself at the miute and the sales reps get back to you quickly and are very helpful. Best of luck with it anyway

    Yeah,
I'm looking at importing. The agents do seem very helpful and quick to respond. Just getting my head around spending that much on a Surf that I've only seen in photos...

Try this site too for comparisions on pricing and shipping etc-
    http://www.tradecarview.com/

A word of warning - check the small print on shipping re; damage to vehicles @ sea.
They pack em' tight on board and i have had stories of comprehensive damage to vehicles in crowded decks in rough seas.

Pat Igoe is the name of that place on the naas longmile junction

Thanks for the replies folks, still nothing suitable around.
Pat Igoe doesn't have anything great, and Tradecarview has some very bad press regarding the way they do business.

I'm looking into using an Irish agent who has contacts in Japan. So I'll see how that goes. Fingers crossed he turns up with some good ones.

    Hi,
Re; trade car view, where did you see the bad press on this crowd?
They are well respected in the jap import performance car scene in the uk i'm lead to believe......but then again, each person may have their own experience with certain import service providers.

    Hey,
I know this isn't exactly related to the above but I'm having trouble find a tow bar for my '91 Hilux Surf. Due to the fact that they are all imports and the normal Hilux chassis is different. I've tried all the normal channels: Brinks etc but I've been told I'd have to import it.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Shane

Not 100% sure for the '91 Surf (2nd Gen), but the 3rd Gen shares the chassis with the Landcruiser. Perhaps a Landcruiser towbar from the same year might fit.
There used to be a decent 4x4 breakers in Cahir in Co. Tipp. Worth a call too.

Thanks for that niceirishfella and cmar-Ireland I'll look into soon. Don't needed it right now as I've my old Landcrusier BJ40 (there's a photo of it up on "today I saw a classic"). Has the original engine and she still would pull a house down :D

Hi - if you are ok with importing from UK, Autotrader.co.uk or Exchange & Mart regularly have Surfs in the adverts. The Hilux Surf Forum also has a Sales section.

Is there a Hilux Forum in Ireland/Dublin?. Would be interested in exchanging advice/getting info on Surfs.

Yeah, I'm a member on the hilux surf forum. It's a great source of info.
I don't know of any Irish hilux forums though.

The search for a Surf has stopped though, thinking of a newer Landcruiser now...

The late ones were basically the 90 series in a pickup format.
same 1KZTE engine and suspension, just harder to find body parts.
I would stick with a KZJ 90/95 , as there was hundreds sold here and they can be got for handy money now.
Either 1-KZTE or the D4D engine.
Check the cooling system as that can be a fault that leads to a new head, rads sometimes get clogged.

    i'm a member of elite4x4.co.uk
its an english club but there are a good few irish lads on it

    all welcome to join up
there is a friendly rivalry on it between the hilux vs landrover owners, but its all fun

there are a few guys selling various trucks on there and with sterling gone quare, its a great time to buy.

a good few of the hiluxs and surfs have goodies on them too, such as suspension lifts and huge tyres.my hilux does too
