    Was hoping for a 9650GT (the 13.3" LG P310 has a 9600GT).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,007 ✭✭✭Gerard_Smith

interesting he introduced the new Macbook Pro before the new Macbook. New ultra-portable on the way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,110 ✭✭✭Sarn

I'm liking the look of the new MacBook.

Anyone want a slightly used MBP bought in Feb? :D

So the new MB is a baby MBP, then. Wow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭JackKelly

so they are just bridging the gap between MB and MBP without updating the base level model. wtf. disappointing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,007 ✭✭✭Gerard_Smith

As I said earlyer in the thread I would imagin Apple are hanging back to see how the increasingly oversturated netbook market pans out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,230 ✭✭✭Breezer

And while I don't think it was stated... No Firewire on the MacBook by the looks of the pictures. Keeping the old white one is just plain weird too. I think I'll be keeping my old laptop a while longer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

i like the idea of the two graphics chipsets on the pro.

reduce power when using the chipset whilst doing desktopy work, and kick in the card for games etc.

the glossy screen though is something i'm not mad about although i do have one on my macbook.

i think i'll wait til these get a slight hardware upgrade sometime next summer which is when i'll be looking for a new laptop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭JackKelly

I think they've really missed a good opportunity here to get more customers onboard. I was planning to get an eeepc but waited to see if they updated the baseline MB. If so, I would have happily spent the extra money to get one.

    There's a 13" MB with a backlit keyboard and a GPU.
    It's the new Powerbook G4.

    I MUST HAVE ONE.

    MacBook:

"Second model, $1599, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD... and a backlit keyboard. Shipping today, should hit stores tomorrow."

    apple-laptop-event-086.jpg

    apple-laptop-event-087.jpg

€1190 Euros-ish. Will be a little beast of a laptop.
Can't please everyone at these things.

Apple doesn't seem to agree on price, asking for €1499 for that model

and the upgrades of course extra.

The new monitor hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread. 24" LED iSight, Mic, speakers 3USB ports, and a Magsafe charging connector etc etc. Looks nice

    EDIT: $899 is quite expensive

Argh I hate the American/Irish price differences.
The education store doesn't seem to be back yet. Still waiting on their prices to make up my mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

i'm sorry but the price apple are charging for that display is unreal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,110 ✭✭✭Sarn

    With Educational discount.

    MBP €1655.28 or €2069.10
    MacBook €892 or €1126.51 or €1409.65

Hey, isn't the dollar weak now?
Don't I have friends in NYC?

    Why yes! :D

Re: 24" Cinema Display: yes it's expensive; maybe it has a better panel than most 24"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭JackKelly

unfortunately the euro has been falling against the dollar!

    1euro=1.36$

as opposed to ~1.60 earlier in the year.

new macbook is actually hilarious , its more of a downgrade TBH

lack of HDMI , Blu - ray option , Lack of Firewire , fingerprint scanner would be nice its standard on most dell laptops , and a Non glossy screen with HOOGe bezel and Non buttoned Track pad ( I see this as a Stupid design) ..

Thanks Steve for not making regret my Xps1530.

Am I right in thinking that we've also got price-drops on the iPod touch 8GB and 16GB models?

i'd just like to point out that they have now, apart from the original entry macbook still available, moved their entire portable portfolio over to DDR3 memory.

you know, on the whole i think this is a pretty exceptional update. so what if you're losing 100 mhz on the entry babyPro - the faster memory and better graphics more than make up for it.

so I hear you say "well you would say that being a mod and a mac fanboy" - buying an Apple isn't just about spec under the hood. It's about the whole package: industrial design; spec; OS. What's the closest the PC world can offer in terms of industrial design - that Voodoo Envy über machine for $3000+ ..... hell that doesn't even have the full complement of ports on board, or you have to look at a super-pricey Sony VAIO.....

I believe they've raised the bar for consumer machines (and pro machines at that)...by a long long way. Period.

After a speed bump in 9/12 months these will be perfect.

    but that's just me.

I really like the updates - I'm finding the new MacBook really interesting too and might consider it as a replacement for my MBP as the 15.4" is nice at home but a bit of a pain to carry around. It's been a long time since I looked into graphics cards so I wonder how the 9400M will perform against my current 8600GT 256MB? Other than the screen size, the new MacBook seems to be on par (if not higher spec) than my current MBP so it might be worth the switch...

I would side on the air of cautious rapture on this update myself. Fantastic looking machines, nice bump in spec etc. I'll probably end up getting the new MBP (I really need extra spec in my machine). In fact I've already got a buyer for my 8-month old one. My only worry is the click-pad thing rather then a button.

Blu -ray licensing is to much? , then they go and use DDR3 gimme a break

I use it every time i log onto my laptop , I have one on my phone , and even the new shuttles come with one. good for having 1 secure means of Keeping all the passwords in one bank

also: the bump is specs brings it up to par of a Dell half the Price , with More features :_)

€849 on the irish store... and it says "coming soon"

On an unrelated note, does anyone know when the new in-ear headphones will be available? They are also "Coming Soon" according to the store

My theory is that they don't want the hassle of putting Blu-Ray into their machines because they consider it a transitional technology that won't be around for long enough to justify bothering. The licensing complication stuff is a bluff.

They see HD video (or whatever else you want on your BR disk) as something that will more properly reside in the cloud and be drawn down (i.e. bought from iTunes or played off your AppleTV) over wi-max or whatever whenever it's needed. The optical disks will soon enough go the way of floppies and so on (the MB Air is a hint at where they see things going).

Why bother with jumping through hoops to give people what they think they want when you know that they're not going to want it for very long? ;)

    The Steve knows best... :D
