Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Comp freezes randomly (vista 64-bit)

I just recently bought a custom made desktop with Vista 64-bit OS, All motherboard drivers, OS patches, and BIOS are updated with the right and current 64-bit updates. Device manager shows no conflicts or anything.
We have not overclocked this comp at all, and not sure if we want it overclocked, we just want this comp to run without these freeze ups.

Comp just locks up randomly sometimes as much as 4 times a day. Had the comp for about 2 months, and it used to do it once in awhile but now seems to want to do it alot more often then usual, graphics cards was put under a stress test, tested comp with 1 at a time, ran a program to test it and they both tested perfect, Disabled SLI tested comp to see if it would freeze up, and it did, re-enabled SLI, and it did it again later that night, so every option we tried it never helped. Also as a little more detail, it seems to freeze alot faster if I'm watching a video from say youtube.com or gametrailers.com. Ram was tested as well and everything was perfect.

The following is the details on the set up..

    Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
    Memory: 4094MB RAM
    Hard Drive: 750 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (2)
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080425-1930)
    Mainboard Model:
    P5N-T DELUXE (0x33B - 0xBE5D88A0)

I read in a thread that someone that had this sort of issue and someone recommended HWmonitor and to post the findings after letting it run for a few hours.

Possibly the god awful nVidia hard drive controller. Try and uninstall the motherboard sata drivers and see if that helps.

Ok I tried doing that, uninstalled and deleted the drivers however upon rebooting, it automaticly goes and installs nVidia all over again see included pic.

That's hopefully just the windows driver (it still has the nVidia name for the device). If you removed the nVidia driver from the control panel, you should be fine. (and can see if it has helped).

Well after thinking we solved the source of the problem, it came back and froze the comp while watching a video, so I watched the same video to see if it would do it again and it didn't, but about 15 min later while doing nothing at all other then browsing the net, comp freezed up.

Any Ideas on what to try next? I got to solve this problem somehow!

    are you monitoring HDD activity?

Try installing this gadget, it will let you know when any of your system resources begins to spike.

Ok installed and left it run overnight, not quite sure on what it is Im supposed to look for however when I open or close programs the HDD IO and HDD SEEK shows a very dark red, but other then that the HDD usage shows about 33%.
