Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

25 yr old car - classic insurance??

    Hi thinking of buying a 1983 ford would this, being 25 years old, be classified as a classic for reduced classic insurance and road tax ?? :rolleyes:

    Insurance yes, tax no. try this lot , they in insure me on my 16 year old Saab..

    To get proper classic insurance you'll also need a policy on another car (or be insured on your partners). Otherwise it will be priced like insuring a standard car.

    as far as i know the driver needs to be over 25 have/to be insured on another car, oh and the car needs to be 20years old.

    i think the car needs to be 30 or 40 years old to qualify for no road Tax.

    Only 44 euro's Annual Road Tax

    If your car has an engine capacity of 3.8 litres, this would set you back nearly 1400 euros a year in Road Tax. However, if your car is 30 years or older, it would be exempt from Road Tax, and you would only have to pay 44 euros per annum (the rates vary slightly across the counties), regardless whether your engine capacity 1 litre or 6.7 litres. :cool:

    For concessionary "vintage" Motor Tax rates to apply the vehicle has to be over 30 years old (from date of first worldwide registration). The rates are €21 for motorcycles and all other vehicles €46.

    Correct rates can be found at www.motortax.ie.

    The other inaccuracy on that site is the VRT. You do pay VRT on a imported classic, although it is VRT Category C and carries a flat rate of €50.

    no it doesnt...its not 30 yrs old until 2018....you will be able to get classic insurance but NOT tax...
