We have a Bavarian friend staying with us and would like to visit it but it wont be worth the hassle if theres only a few sorry looking stands at it!!

but not as good as the German Christmas market they ran two years back.
Krstillnacht I think it was though I've probably misspelled it

Erdinger beer, Frankunfurter sausages and lots of other stuff. Definitly check it out, you've loads of time left.
Good music too, well it's different anyway.
All free to go along and check though if your company wants to organize events for staff there are charges.

It's 100 times better then the "Plage" then had in George's Dock in August, now that was a disaster!

Tbh, your Bavarian friend might not be impressed but it's a decent attempt for an event in Dublin, I was impressed anyway

Hold on, I'll get a link for it

Cheers Mic,
Might be worth a visit on an afternoon for lunch during the week maybe, I find their attitude with food different than our own, so maybe he might get a full belly and be satisfied that day!!

****in hell I'll be there next weekend. I woulda gone last night if I'd heard about it. Is it expensive? How much are the pints?

• Registered Users Posts: 6,339 ✭✭✭How Strange

I thought it was great and def one of the better organised 'free' events in Dublin lately. There was a great atmosphere, lots of german sausages and beer. It's free in and pints are €5.50. It's all Paulaner beer, not a drop of Erdinger to be had.

Def worth a visit.

5 euro. It's strong mind and far, far nicer then your standard Diageo beers. All the main brands, Erdinger is the probably the most well-known.
Edit, could have been 5.50, not so sure

Same for the hotdogs with German sausages.
They're huge though, you won't eat more than one, possibly two.

Loads of other Bavarian food, I didn't try these though
German Bretzels, Pastries, Black Forest sausages, Sauerkraut, Nockerln, Crepes, Love Apples and Ginger Bread Hearts

I hope they didn't actually call it that (Kristallnacht)..... would be a bit insensitive to the ol' Jews. Probably was Weihnachtsmarkt.

Oh, sorry about that :o
Now I remember what about the night of the broken glass was about.

It was some German name for Christmas market anyway

Can you just walk in off the street or is it a free event that you still need tickets for ?

You can just walk in.

Extra points if you goose-step in though.

(Oh come on - lighten up a bit!)

A bit of advice, I was gonna head in saturday about 8 but when I walked by, there was a queue to get into the dock area, queue was about 70-80 deep and didnt appear to be moving. If you go at the weekend you may want to go a bit earlier.

was there on Sat night for the last part and then all day Sunday, some laugh I must admit, I even got to practice on my yodle - ing

One of them bitches robbed €5 on me though, you know the ones collecting the glasses? Well I asked for one of them heart things they were carrying which were a fiver and I gave her a tenner, was told she'sd be back with my change, never did!!

But other than that was a great day out that's for sure. Make sure you try the steak westerns....... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Was down at the Octoberfest on Saturday and it was brilliant.

Of course it's not the real thing, but it's an event in Dublin that really got people socialising and up and dancing and that makes a refreshing change. I'm sure the strong beer helped :)

I found myself chatting with some total strangers and agreeing that you just wouldn't get this atmposphere in any Dublin pub or nightclub.

The long queues testify that it was very popular, so here's hoping they make it much bigger next year!

I was there on Satuday afternoon - the music they were playing in the tent - My God! My ears! What ****e! The food and booze were good though.

I live just next to it and it was cr@p. Ridiculously and pathetically lame.

Come here Dubliner, I steal your money and abuse you with dull beer. And since you're happy I'll rip you off again and amuse you with stupid 1980's hits in German, and you'll queue for hours to come in. Never again for me!

Wonder if anyone else has comments on this?

it was complete rubbish. Typical Dublin job. The queue must have been hours long, everything else was overpriced and had too many people.

I often wonder what the people who give these things positive reviews are like. I presume they have very low expectations of things and are relatively easily pleased.

Wet along on Sunday afternoon, good crowd, zero queuing, lots of wind (big thanks to the bright spark who left the fountain running = free Liffey showers:( ).

Inappropriate amount of German's there. Miserable bunch of feckers, all except for the drunk ones inside the beer tent. The band had this chant (the German version of Oggy Oggy Oggy, Oi Oi Oi!) except in German it sounds uncannily like Seigheil, Seigheil, Seigheil!, Oi, Oi, Oi!

Also got served by a mouthy kid (about 12 yrs old ) in the bottle only tent, which was a novel experience.

All in all, a pretty crap event unless there was a big gang of friends going.

Sure even in a group, it's cheaper and more enjoyable to go to a good ol' boozer, watch some TV, grab a beer or three, and enjoy the craic.

This October thing was obnoxious. The organisers looked like they were at a funeral, all dressed in black, with sinister faces, wearing these stupid hats, and very very few actualy understood- let alone spoke- English!

A small cardboard punnet of fries for a fiver, a sausage sandwich for a fiver, a small plate of sauerkraut with potatoes for a tenner.

Please never again. When will the powers That Be understand, we're proud of what we are and we like what we do. So stop the con games and tourist traps, and please bring back our good ol' pubs!

Went on the Sunday and only stayed an hour or so, we were pretty disappointed. Had some overpriced food and watched the plastic cow being milked and then left. There were very few german 'craft' stalls or much other than the beer and food.
