You can see the hands of Ibec and The American Chamber of Commerce all over this budget. No increase in Corporation Tax, a fu*kin disgrace...

Yeah the economy could have been fixed over night if we'd managed to drive those pesky American multinationals out by putting up corporation tax.

    And again

    And jeez one more

And fuk it here's another,

Who cares? Everyone will grumble about it for a day or two, then forget about the whole thing and come next election time, once more vote back that shower of idiots back in.

Beer is down, 2.5% volume beer that is...
A reduced rate of excise duty, at 50% of the full appropriate excise duty rate for beer and cider, will be introduced for low alcohol beer and cider (beer and cider products with an alcohol by volume content of 2.8% or less), with effect from midnight on 14 October 2008.

Companies that are starting up aren't making a profit so the tax wouldn't immediately apply to them. Everyone else is taking a hit, so businesses should have been made step up to the plate. He has introduced some sort of tax exemption for the first 3 years for start up businesses.

Indeed. As one working for a multinational I'd rather they didn't bugger off.

The 1% levy is savage though. When consumer spending is just about the only thing left to keep the economy ticking over they take money out of peoples pockets and then to make it worse anything you do buy at the 21% rate (which is almost everything at this stage" they make you pay another 1/2 value added tax on it.

I am really surprised about the alcohol.I have a feeling it is to make people think that the budget is not as bad as it seems.

And thats the attitude that lets these f*****s get away with this kind of budget.

They are only here for the ultra low corporation tax rate and the jobs they bring here are low skill jobs. I know because I used to work for a multinational and I know the jobs are mainly low skill althought they have convinced everyone otherwise.

How much less tax increase could there have been if they left out the bit where they give 1.65 billion to the developers. Yup that's fair. I suppose they will be suffering with the extra 8 cent a litre to fill up their Ferrari's.

Nope its because the publicans are a rowdy bunch who the government do not want to piss off.

If they wanted to increase taxes on alcohol they should have put an increase on alcohol sold off-license.

Exactly. To a certain extent you can't blame them. They know they can get away with any amount of ****e with little or no impact on election day because 'ah sure, they're crooks, but they're no worse than the others'.

The Irish electorate are idiots. A people get the government they deserve.

    Oh jesus christ.

Thank you for the lol at this time. Your madcap ideas are most appreciated.

Personally I think they should have introduced a huge tax on tester pots of paints. That would stop people trying out paint before redecorating and then when they discover they didn't like that colour we could make even more money when they're forced to shell out for a totally different shade. What do you think Darragh? Good enough for your manifesto?

    bull****.

Bullsh1t my arse. I've worked for multinationals for years, one in particular that everyone thinks is probably the most advanced company around and I can say from experience that the jobs are mainly low skill. Also, non unionised, so your job can be replaced by a contractor, which is what I've seen happen...

If you have flights booked and paid for, for after March 30th, do you still have to pay this tax?

Interesting they picked that date as the Countries largest carrier Ryanair has yet to put flights on sale from March 30th yet.

I don't think so; I'd say the departure tax is most likely added on when you pay for the flight ticket itself from March 30th and then onwards.

Nope don't think so. But you can do something. When it comes to election time again, stand in the polling station and break the fingers, hands and arms of any **** who ticks a box for Fianna Fail.

in fairness there's no alternative, fg would be even worse.
