"Camcorder" Recommendations Please

    Hi All,

    Its my dad's birthday next month and we'll be on holiday in Asia and thought a gift of a "camcorder"(or whatever the digital equivalent is called these days!) would make a nice gift, but I know very little about said devices so I'd appreciate some pointers on what to look for. Ideally we're looking for something small, light, decent quality, a good brand(we've been happy with Sony digicams in the past), etc. Just looking for some pointers as what to look for, what the standard is - memory, zoom, resolution etc.

    I too am searching for a camcorder. Nothing expensive. I don't understand the jargon.
    I don't know know which is best mini dv or sd. I don't know can your re-record over mini dv.
    I need help, fast because I've just discovered that my sister and I had both bought the same present for my brother's birthday next week, so I'm looking for a plan b. I'm just looking for a nice handy camcorder. Saw dv mini for 187 on elara that is 233 in Argos.

    If this question shouldn't be in here, then can someone please scrap it.

    Was hoping for some recommendations myself. Think I'm just suffering from GAS rather than actually needing one.
