I don't think overheal should have had to change the wording of his post, and delete the other offending line which is no longer there, something about not having to spray it on her face, which removed any doubt for me about it's nastiness.

    Where does it end?

Maybe on AH you could have a disclaimer similar to this one, used by craigslist.org.

    http://newyork.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/personals.cgi?category=rnr

The conscriptions on boards on what you can and cant say is OUT OF CONTROL. Don't get me wrong, I find what overheal wrote to be repulsive and juvenile, but that certainly doesn't mean he should be forced to edit his post or be banned. If I don't like it, I don't have to read it. The only reason I did read it was it came up on another discussion board about porn and mysogyny.

Are people not allowed to be misogynistic now?

Good question. Does this set precendent? Can I request a word be changed because I find it offensive?

I keep having to bite my lip to stop the impulse to quote someone and reply with "shut the **** up, bitch."

Not because I want to, but because its just...too...funny...

try it in P.I. .. it would actually be appropriate in some of the threads there

Let me tell you, the first sign of anti-man sexyism on AH and I'll be throwing my soother out of the pram faster than you could say "agenda pushing malingerers who want to impose their values on everyone else" :pac:

Wow AH poster who can't tell the difference between bawdy humour with a double entendre and offensive and degoratory statement.

As per my post in tLL on the subject Thae, the difference between these two is nothing more than a matter of perspective.

I thought that the difference was pretty clear my dear magic dragon.

The original phrasing brought to mind a pretty vile picture of a woman being aggressed upon, or having a sexual act forced upon her, or being belittled and overpowered as part of same. I think your point seeks to denigrate that, but to me it seems pretty clear that, with all joking aside, the thread title was in fact demeaning to women and unnecessary and should just have been removed.

The title "Swallow, babe, it's good for you" just would not bring forth the same kinds of images. I stand by what I am saying.

Report report.gif a post that you feel is offensive. It's then up to the mods to make the judgment call.
I think Overheal was attention whoring for views with that title and should have been warned for dissing our sistas.
Karoma is a good mod imho and by putting this in feedback shows it.

if the title had been used in the content of any post it would have been ok then?

Strange all the people offended by it that didn't report it...

When a user reports a post it creates a thread in a Moderator forum. Subsequent reports of the same post are put in the same 'mod' thread.

Since records began (Feb '06) there have been 30,562 reported posts each one generating a certain amount of traffic. The title of this thread has resulted in the reported post becoming #13 out of 30,562 based on replies to the 'mod-forum' thread so I don't think you can say that people didn't report it nor that it's not something worth discussing.

We have received one or two reported posts (literally) complaining about the "misogynistic" thread title.

Is it normal to change a thread based on one or two reports?

Or do some reports carry more weight than others?

I'm aware of how the reported posts forum works :)

As for the replies, before this thread it was all mods discussing it and not a single other user reported it.

only the intial post in that thread was a complaint, the rest was discussion of that one complaint. I'm not passing judgement on the merit of the complaint, but it's certainly not the 13th most complained about post on boards.

It depends on what's being reported I guess. Most posts that are reported are acted upon as it's usually just common sense at work.

All reports are equal but the more people that report something, the more likely it'll be acted upon.

It didn't offend me in the least. It clearly wasn't meant in an agressive/sexist way.

As for people complaining about it showing up on the front page sometimes - bully for them. I don't go into the Hunting forum because I abhor the practice, but I don't get my knickers in a twist any time a post from there shows up on the front page. I simply ignore it. Seems like some people need to exercise their right to do the same thing...

But I was under the impression that there were only one to two reports?

If so, given the amount of reported posts that AH must generate, what was it about those reports (or who made them) that made this such a burning issue?

I never said it was. I said it was the #13 most discussed thread. I was trying to show that it doesn't have to take a whole bunch of reports for action to be taken and that the matter was being 'discussed'.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there was only the 2. The 'mod-thread' generated a lot of replies from other mods and Karoma created this one to see what the general opinion was and if others were offended why they didn't bother reporting. I was speaking about reported posts in general.

Correct. But that still doesn't address what should and shouldn't be allowed in the first place.

That's how I saw it too, and imo crossed the (rather blurred) what is/ isn't-acceptable-even-in-AH line.

It's not a storm in a teacup, it's a genuine concern made by a poster who is perfectly entitled to do so that has only gathered pace and reached storm status as a result of a vein of unwillingness of people to heed their own advice re: ignoring things.

Someone expressed a concern - if you don't think the discussion is worthy, stay out of it. Weather systems and crockery have nothing to do with it.

    Really?

Depending on who you ask one is just as bad as the other.

Girls have an odd relationship with that word. They'd prefer to be called kuntz! But you know, these things are only offensive and degoratory if you allow them to be. In the thread title there is no personal attack, so it is not of itself offensive.

So, leave the line where it is, and if you feel you might be offended by the content of the thread, don't read it. If you feel offended by the word in its context used, you must spend every day mortified.
