While I agree with the majority of what you're saying and some of the absolutely mortifying slogans and posters they had today, I really have to ask you how exactly you think Fianna Fail have done a "wonderful job" over the last 20 years?

Well, this country has changed alot over the last 20 years, and the change has most definitely in my opinion been for the good, ultimately as a result of good leadership.
I should really have said they have done a good job for students, basically handing out degrees and creating lots and lots and lots and lots of jobs for graduates.
I admit i was perhaps a tad over the top with my appraisal of F.F. but i'mm happy to see you along with max-damage agree with the majority of what i said as i was beginning to think i was on my own..

I agree it was a right shame about the posters and such that had no place being there.

I wonder did the same 'anarchists' merge with the pensioners earlier in the day:D

could people please go to this thread and express an opinion

    I'll just express it here.

Between holidays, drink and general frivalous spenditure throughout the year, the typical student wastes over 2000.

So for every non-patritic ****er who's trying to milk our country while it's on its knees, remember that paying a measily 1500 for a degree that others pay THOUSANDS for in other countries is practically nothing.

As the sane heads here have noted, that 'demonstration' was really organised by every anarchist/communist/socialist/'republican'/environmentalist for their owngood. Not to mention the USI trying to bolster their visability...

It's all well and good for those who can afford to do as you've stated, me myself paying fees wouldn't hurt my family's income to the extent where we'd struggle but that's not the majority's case. Education has been somewhat a silver bullet in the building up of this economy and to take away the incentive of finishing the Leaving Cert for a large part of the country is in my opinion (and words) social suicide.

Also, as far as I'm aware it wouldn't just be 1500, or did you miss that part in the national coverage?

And finally, as far as 'wasting' money goes, I don't think students are the big culprits there at all, but that's for another debate.

    Ah but they are.

The fees aren't coming back. But people are still complaining about a raise in registration fees.

Why should it be your families income? It should be your own.

Oh yeah, real logical to have full time students in full time work as well

    Ever use your brain?
Its called govt. loans for students. Paid back at near zero interest when they graduate and start earning.

As climate_expert said, you wont be paying a cent until you finish college. Other countries seem to have a thing where you can go travelling etc. But once you start paying it off, you must continue to.

I highly doubt that job interviewers start off with the 'How much did your degree cost?' question.

Why should we have to pay for something that's a right? Especially when there's a fairly poor scholarship system in place anyway.

Free tertiary education is not a right.

What? We don't need a scholarship system when we have the Access program, county council grants, rent assistance. All helping people who may or may not need it.

Why would employers ask about the degree cost? I cant understand where that sentence came from at all

And college education, a right? Hmmm...

You said yourself on the other thread that you curse the day tuition fees were abolished because international colleges don't respect them, A degree isn't judged on how much somebody paid for it

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. Any chance of a link?
