Just wondering does anyone know of any accountancy package done through excel or has anyone come across any attempt to use excel for debit and credit entries? I'm thinking of giving this a go using excel and macros but looking for a head start.

GnuCash is open source so all the code is available and probably the whole methodology.

    Excel for accounting ??

Make bloody sure you set excel to save backup copies for when it craps out and corrupts the worksheet, have a copy of openoffice on hand to try to read the corrupt worksheet.

Lots of packages export to excel
personally I prefer imports through CSV format , there is no worrying about cell formats or merging or macros

Isn't that one of the main uses for excel? I'm sure theres a ton of info on the web for this...

Results about 1,450,000 for excel bookkeeping.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=excel+bookkeeping&spell=1

Lots of places I've worked in used excel for this kinda stuff.
