Pool Rules clarification

I'm hoping someone can clarify two incidents that happened while playing pool yesterday. In this situation there are 7 red and 7 yellow balls with no numbers and a black ball.
The players are playing by European rules.

    1st incident:-

First player broke off and no balls were potted
2nd player pots a red on his 1st shot and went in off

Question is - does the next player get "two visits" or not?

    2nd incident:-

Player has two visits as result of a foul.
Player uses 1st shot to pot opponents ball ( in European rules the 1st shot has a free table )

Question is - is that the 1st visit used up?

Ive only really ever played world rules.. But have watched 1 or two cash games in european rules. But every pub seems to have its own differant rules european rules. But as far as i know if its an open table and u pot a ball and go in off your opponent has two shots and a choice of colours. I actually think with those rules he could pot a red in his first shot and still have two and then take yellows cause he had a free ball. And secondly u do carry your shots with your free ball....God no wonder they upgraded those rules...:)
