Was it broke as soon as you turned it on?

did they check it when it was handed in or when you bought it

What check can a shop do to see if it will break down after a week of use?

I think they claim to check all consoles, but realistically they don't. I bought a preowned PS2 off them which when I brought home wouldn't eject. I used a knife to get it open and there was still a disc lodged in it! Brought it back for a full refund, kept the disc though!

It took the OP's console a week to break down, theres no way they could test for that other than to use it for a week which is not practical. Even then what about if it breaks after 2 weeks? how long should they run tests for?

Yeah thats true, though my one clearly hadn't been tested.
