hi guys,
have been driving a bora 02tdi comfortline for about 2 years now and want a change. What do u recomend thats nice to drive but still fairly economical for this type of motorway distance. ive always fancied a 320d but this has caught my eye and is around my price bracket...

I'm biased, as I've a very similar 530d for sale on adverts, but:
- if you want comfort, roomy interior, and boot space, go for a 530d.
- if you're after economy, go for a 320d.

Economy-wise, a 530d will do 48-50 mpg at 60 mph, falling to 44-ish at 75 mph (auto with cruise control on), so if you can live with that (and the tax), its a fantastic car for the money ...

in the current market that is expensive for a non sport e39 5 series

Kia Ceed would be my choice, gets nearly 60mpg, with an annual road tax bill of only €150 and has 6 year warranty, 2 years roadside assitance, 5 star euro ncap safety and a good 1.6 diesel engine to top it off.

You cant beat that really, lovely looking car too.

I had almost got a 05 Focus from the uk before I spotted them.

OP go for a 2.2 diesel Honda Accord, better built and more reliable than any 320d.

Badge snobery has nothing to do with it, they are COMPLETELY different cars! A 5 series is much larger, much faster, more comfortable, more stylish, refined etc than the Kia.

Nothing wrong with the Kia necessarily but its chalk and cheese!:pac:

Don't think I made it clear earlier but I'm in full agreement. It's like someone asking about flying first class to Paris and someone suggesting you jump on a Ryanair to Beauvais and bus it from there.

GF does similiar mileage and she bought an 05 Astra 1.7 CDTI, its done 20k miles since early March, but if she was to do it again she said she would get something more comfortable like an Audi or BMW so if it was me I would go with the 530d if you can afford the fuel costs and tax.

Otherwise the alternative is the Audi A4 2.0 TDi which is the best car for economy in its class.
