    Hiya,

My Xbox360 started showing every disc as "unreadable".. it's an old Samsung drive, and when I opened it and watched the sensor while it was reading the discs, it wasn't moving up and down the full way across the disc like my "other" xbox.

Anyway.. It's the oldest xbox that I've seen, so I'm assuming the samsung problem is the same as the problems I've read on the net (with old samsung xboxes having crap drives).

Either way, I wanna buy a new DVD Drive for it... Anyone know where I could buy one in Dublin? or Ireland?

    Thanks,

    Cully

When i got that error i replaced the laser and its working grand. You should pick one up for about E15 or so on ebay.

Don't think I want to replace just a tiny laser... I opened the DVD Drive and that's bad enough. I wouldn't know how to removed the spindle that the laser moves up and down on.

Anyway.. The main reason is that the old samsung xboxes are renowned for having crap DVD drives, so I just wanna replace it...

Hard to get a replacement easy though.... if I take out a Samsung Drive, can I replace it with a BenQ?

Its actually handy enough, your not replacing the laser, you replace the component the laser is attached to. The only thing is you might need to desolder a anti static solder point, its simple but it means you need a soldering iron.

You can replace the samsung drive with the Benq no bother

If you go down this road will you pm me, i might no someone who is interested in the Samsung drive.
