Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Is this payable to all parents of children under 19 or is it just to low income families?

    Is it true foreign national families can come to Ireland and claim for children not born in Ireland?

    What changes occurred in the budget 2008?

    The change were that children over 18 in full time education will no longer qualify for the benefit.

    Yes, but the children must reside in the EU.

    The family don't ever have to come to Ireland. As long as the claiming parent/guardian is in Ireland and the family reside in the E.U. they can claim the full amount.

    This is unfair why wasnt this changed in the budget

    As far as i'm aware (i could be completely wrong) its EU legislation not irish legislation so it can't be changed in the budget. As Ireland has such an influx of EU foreign nationals and the social welfare rates are a bit higher than in other places, it makes more sense for the people hoping to benefit from this to come to Ireland.

    It's covered under EEC directive 1408/71.

    The 1408 is the number of the directive and the 71 is the year it was brought in.

    As you can see it dates from before we joined the EEC. We knew about it and signed up, and we benefitted from it.

    You can't go crying about it now.

    It is payable to all families with children under 16 or 17-18 in full time education, no means test here. Currently the rate for first and second child is €166 per child, the rate changes for child 3 and up afaik.
