Looking to buy a car and want to check if it was a rental car - the dealer says it wasn't but I don't trust him too much :)
Cartell.ie doesn't show it, only if was a taxi.

Start by having a look at the VLC, see who it's registered to. This won't necessarily answer your question, but it might well help.

What's the make and model and year of the car?

Normally ex rentals from this year come onto the market this month.

    New-looking hubcaps?

They often leave them off when renting them out.

    May 2007 Peugot 104 with like 35000km
Just seems a bit much for such a small car

Lol, there are usually a few tell tale signs with rentals, if it's on carzone, throw it up and we get a look.

How many owners has it? Try and find out who owned it from the dealer, if the first owner was a garage or company then chances are it was leased out at some stage.

Usually ex rentals are only leased out to rental companies for about 6 to 9 months. In other words they are leased out in Jan or March and come back to the dealer around the end of August or begining of September when the tourist season is over.

Very unusual for a rental to be leased out for 12 months or longer unless the model is something rare or not in demand.

Other signs are mismatching plastic wheel trim (the originals got lost or stolen and replaced with cheap aftermarket ones), rental stickers (hire firm serial number to identify the car) though most dealers remove these when the car returns to them and lots of scuff marks on the body work.

Since the Toll Bridge came down, the rental companys are putting there own name on the VLC, to stop confussion over toll Charges. For example, Avis/Enterprise, But that is only from the last batch of x-rentals,The only real way to tell them as x-rentalsis when you go and look @ the car in the forecourt look for similar Reg Numbers ending in simlar ways, like 08D-1012, 08D-1013, 08D-1014, Ye know urself, But to be honest with you if the dealer says it is not a ex-rental and it turns out to be, I personally would not buy a car of him/her and go somewere else. Dont be afraid to buy an x-rental, there is great value out there @ the moment on 08 Stuff.
