Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I hope Celtic get 1 back to make a game of this but they are playing some pretty dodgy football infront of their own goal. Could spell trouble.

Good stuff from United, really cutting stuff. Need to be a bit more clinical and we can walk away with this game.

Goal was offside no doubt, but it really was barely offside. Like 4 inches or so, and its no surprise that the linesman didn't give it, since it was extremly tight and the Celtic player was in line by the time Berbatov kicked it. Still, while its offside, I for one am happy when the officials give the benefit of doubt to the attacker as they are meant to.

A couple of yellow cards issued here, lets keep it clean lads.

MU look as if they could slice through at will then go and blow it.. what was Fletcher thinking of? As for Celtic, sometimes it is headless chicken stuff. Would love to see them a bit more composed at the back. Terrible decision from the officials.

That only applies when the player is level, not in an offside position!

Whatever you say about Nani he can take a tackle, at one stage he got fouled twice but kept going and crossed the ball, if that was Ronaldo he'd probably still be rolling around!

Berba was onside for the goal

    (teehee)

Some good play from United, they're passing really well. Nani having a decent game by his recent standards. Sheasy nearly got an OG by the way :D

Oh and guess who DID get an OG? I'll give you a hint: he's French, used to play for United, and just made his Champions League debut for Arsenal :pac: muahahahahaha

    Also, Rossi scored for Villareal

I just don't get why people call it a terrible decision. It was the wrong decision, but it was really tight.

This is the biggest problem with refs these days. Everybody absolutely slates them if they give the wrong decision and it allows a goal. I guarantee you any amount of money that fi Berbatov was just onside and he was flagged offside, it wouldn't be slated as a terrible/blatent, it'd just be the wrong decision.
This is the reason refs are so unwilling to give blatent penalties and lot, and its what leads to a lot of inconsistancy.

It's the wrong decision, but personally I'm happy that they are giving the benefit of the doubt to the attacker.
That only applies when the player is level, not in an offside position!

That makes no sense. What would it mean then? When they are level they are onside. Isn't that the rule?

It means that if the linesman doesn't see the offside, then he's not meant to call it. The benefit of the doubt to the attack means that they are presumed on side, unless the ref sees otherwise. So many goals are disallowed because the ref flags because he presumes the opposite.

Can't really complain. Again I'll say it, if Celtic were capable of defending it'd really give them confidence when they have the ball too. There's pressure on every pass because they know once they give it away United will create something.

Ronaldo does the same if theres advantage to be had. Always has done. If there isn't though, he goes down. And theres a perfect example of why wingers should go down. That second tackle was vicious and no doubt a bookable offense, but because he played on, the player gets away with it.

The attacker is supposed to be given the benefit of doubt when there is doubt.

Basically the law is that if the linesman is not 100% sure then the player should not be judged offside.
or as some have put it there has to be daylight.

The point being there shouldn't have been much doubt. :) The camera angle actually does the linesman a favour. Anyway, I'm not bothered by the decision at all. He'd have scored if he was level anyway.
