He catches headless chicken syndrome way too much in a game. But there is potential there. Christ I wouldnt let him near a corner though!

In fairness, ever hear CP when we're playing, say, Livi? That's the gulf in class here. Hardly exciting stuff.

Yup good job by Anderson, not to mention Berba :D

    Ronnie is still off though.

The first CL match I can remember Boruc make a big mistake and he makes 2. :D Not a great season from him so far.

McManus was excellent I thought. Nothing he could do about the goals.

McGeady had a good game too overall. Very mature performance.

Anyway, I think 3-0 was the most popular prediction amongst Celtic fans so I don't think many will be overly disappointed.

United played very well, should have scored more. Still feel like United have another level to their game currently, theres a lack of clinicalness currently I think.

    I'm delighted! ;)

Just wanted a red card to complete the evening! :D

We were never going to win that game, but without Samaras and JVoH, we didn't have a prayer. McDonald was completely ineffective up there, and Naylor seemed to forget we'd no big strikers playing when he stuck the crosses in.

Caldwell's passing let us down a few times where he had worked hard to get into a good position, and where a decent pass might have had us creating more. Had a great shot on goal early on though, and in fairness to him he's injured.

McGeady was our best player I thought. I know there's no point in finger pointing over this game - we all knew what the result would be, but I do think in general that Naylor and Wilson are completely out of their depths in the CL, and are vulnerable even in the SPL.

We'll have to fight tooth and nail for a diddy cup spot now.

Spot on. The "World's biggest club" beats a team from Scotland, having been handed a one goal start to boot. Ho hum.

    taught Ronaldo was very poor

i do like Evan imo going to be great player but he didnt really have much trouble to deal with tonight

celtic are a very poor team

We were robbed, absolutely robbed. 2 offside goals and a fortunate strike by Rooney.

Thats my view anyway, and i'm sticking to it.....

Very comfortable performance tonight, thought Rooney and Berbatov were top class. Evans did well, very composed. My ratings would be:

VDS 7 - Not alot to do, but made a couple of smart saves and was solid over all
Neville 6 - Ok performance, crossing was poor though
Evans 7 - Very comfortable on the ball and made a couple of very timely interceptions
Vidic 7 - Solid as ever
O'Shea 6 - Defensively did ok, not alot going forward
Ronaldo 6 - Solid enough, still not quite back to the top of his game though
Anderson 7 - Worked hard, did the simple things well.
Fletcher 6 - Solid enough, bad miss in the first half though
Nani 6 - Did ok, put some good crosses in and wasnt as wastefull as he can be
Berbatov 8 - Would have got a 9 if he played the whole game, thought he was outstanding, his best game in a United shirt
Rooney 9 - Keeps up his excellant good form, his confidence is sky high right now

Good performance. If we win the group early we can rest players for the remaining games and really concentrate on the PL. It looks like it's going to be a 4 way race this year with United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Hull all starting well.

Please God don't let Rooney get injured. He will be the key this season.

He is looking very good for you at the moment, seems to like October, last season October was his best period before he went off the boil a bit.

*wipes eyes at this and the Nani was poor remarks*

Anderson was average. Not poor like so often he has been in CL, just decidedly average. Did the job but didnt do much else bar cleverly reading one bad Celtic pass around the quarter line.

Nani worked hard and is coming along more and more. Still of the opinion that in seven years Nani will be a top player and Anderson will be a UEFA cup regular if he is lucky. Against big sides he has absoloutely nothing about him. He is not a top 4 player, apparently not a great international and he is not CL knockout rounds quality. Journeyman is about the best credit you could give, if that.

McGeady was great, and despite only having 10 odd mins Sheridan impressed me, good run or two out of him, played a good pass to the box where if his teammates had a brain cell between them one of them would have positioned themselves, and held his own and played back when he had two or three defenders on him. Reckon he deserves a run out vs Poland (friendlies allow for 6 odd subbings or something dont they?). Why play Keane vs Poland? We know if we do he will probably get a hatrick but it will still be **** all indicator of how he performs in the next competitive game :(

Naylor was shocking. Boruc had a poor night and Nakamura is somewhat overrated Im afraid.

Why is it that after every Man Utd Champions league match they have to have a rant about either Rooney,Ronaldo or Scholes.
Why dont they analyse the bloody match.

Hopefully the start of a long and great career for Sheridan.
Great to see him make an appearance at Old Trafford. I know his mother and father and they'll be proud as hell to see him come on, as is the whole county of Cavan. Probably the only time I've ever wanted someone to score against United...

On the game itself, I thought it was very poor as a contest. United completely dominated and probably should have done slot better with the amount of possession they had. Happy with the 3-0 win though.

Was certainly hoping he would net a consolation goal myself. Must be first cyaahvan man to play in the CL is he?

He impressed me too. If he got a run of games for his teammates to get used to him he could be excellent. He just seems to read the game superbly. Naylor or Maloney were on the left. As soon as they went to put a cross in he made the run forward and left the defender for dead. The ball didn't pass the first man but if it got to him he was unmarked because of that good run (sounds like a basic thing for a striker to do but it was just the timing was spot on). He beat the offside trap well once too. He has decent pace for a big guy and it looks like he'll score a few.

McGeady if nothing else showed tonight he definetly has a good footballing brain.

He certainly didn't look any worse than the United wingers on show and was definetly smarter on the ball than Ronaldo. The problem with Aiden IMO is that he doesn't demand the ball enough and I feel he should be more selfish.

Indeed. Debuting on the big stage in a big game and pulling it off, I only hope he isnt McShane mark II :pac: Seriously though, he played well, maybe it was Strachans nerves about trying to let a young lad save the game when it was theoretically still within grasp that prevented his intro until the very last, but given even 40 minutes I wouldnt have bet against him either scoring or else forcing a good save or two. Ran through two defenders near the box at one point, played a smooth back pass from near the corner into the box (where, as said, any forward with vision should have legged it straight to beforehand), held his own and passed back during an attack near the midfield, very promising stuff. Surprised he wasnt on the radar for the Notts Forest friendly at least, I look out for the new Irish names but tbh the first time Ive heard of him was yesterday when he was mentioned on this forum.

*Looks forward to CL 2009, Celtic vs new money Man City*

Ill be in my living room chanting "who needs ya baldy, we have Shero" if he nets :D

Sorry, I saw another McGeady tonight. He dribbled well. Had one decent shot. That's about it. Was good in a poor Celtic team, so I'm pretty forgiving about his performance, but like, lets not laud it as something it wasn't/

That said, its clear he is another level to Celtic players. His movement is just better than theirs. He desperately needs to move on before he stagnates imo, needs a premiership club. He clearly has bags of potential, needs to realise it.

I can't remember the last time RTE actually properly analysed a match. They just waffle on with over-generalised rants about people or clubs, rather than actually breaking down the teams performance and analysing it, something they should be doing from the start.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

Rooney like Torres represents everything the heavies on RTE love .

They always go on about him, even when Rooney was playing ****, Dunphy would cry and say Ferguson is destroying him.

If anyone remembers it tooks Dunphy a while to coming around to liking Messi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,255 ✭✭✭anonymous_joe

Yeah, was listening to them in disbelief.

They really love 'character' and all that. The reason the English clubs have been plundering every corner of the world is because the English values have their place, but aren't the be all and end of all of everything.

I'm loving Berbatov's lazy football actually. He could really grow into an even better player with the guys around him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭shane86

Had to laugh at the discussion of Ronaldos lack of celebrating at West Brom.

If he ran to the crowd like he had just scored the CL winner he would be accused of showboating against poor little West Brom ffs.

UTVs post match analysis proved that Berbatov was actually onside for the first goal, he was level with the last defenders trailing leg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,716 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

We never did get Dunphys video collection of Berbatov in the analysis.

Anderson and Nani had very good games last night, prob the best I have seen them.

Players like Fletcher and O'Shea are really showing how priceless they are.

For me thou, impression of the night was left by Evans he really does look like the real deal.

United still havn't hit top gear but they are getting there, that is 5 wins in the last 5 games, scoring 14 conceeding 0.
