    Hi all,
I have a 3 month old miniature Jack Russell pup that just does not want to go for walks! The first couple of weeks I had him he loved going for his walk and would be great at coming out with me.

Now, whenever I take him out he sits there looking at me like I am mad! He has a harness and a collar but I prefer the harness on him cause the collar is a bit too big for him at the moment on the smallest setting.

Has anyone got any tips for me? He just won't move!

My puppy used to do this and now he drags me along.

There are some good tips on this thread in regards to lead training that might help

i would think you have probably turned a walk into an un enjoyable experience for him. a 3 month old pup doesnt need any walking. a few minutes play in the garden is enough to tire him out. dont bother trying to walk him again for a while. play about with him in the garden etc...when he's more mature about 5-6 months then start putting him on the lead and taking him out for short walks. good luck.

I dunno, jack russel pups are usually full of enthusiasm and willing to try anything new etc. Perhaps he got a fright on his walk, could of been something small that you may have missed. Or perhaps there's something on the walk that spooks him like other big dogs etc. In general jrts will be pretty outgoing but you do get the odd sensative type lol.

Rule out any other reason eg any minor medical thing.

It's best to get him a smaller collar and an id tag before you take him out again by law dogs are required to wear an id tag with their owners name number and address on it plus if he ever got loose on the harness you might be able to get him back. Also microchipping is a good idea if not already.
Stick with the harness as well though stops them coughing when they pull.

Atm mabey stick the lead on him and just go out and play in the garden to the lead becomes less scary and then when going for a walk evetually bring some little chicken pieces to encourage and reward him and also act really excited when going for a walk (you might feel a bit of a plonker at first but they pick up on your excitement).

Jrts can also be stubborn but it's probably more likely he got a little fright on an outing. Once he gets used to things he'll be flying it, they can walk for ages, perhaps take him to puppy classes in your area as well, this will get him socialising which is important at his age.
