Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

UEFA have said that the referee has full backing if he decides to remove the teams from the pitch in case of racist chanting.

iles was on the ball as ever in the build up, complaining that it was a stupid decision because if they are losing the Athletico fans will just kick up and get the match abandoned.(implying they would be allowed replay it) Good man Johnny. :)

Barca taking the piss. Ref generous to Basle in not giving Barca a peno and sending off Basle's keeper.

Should be 6 or 7-0 by now.

They were also missing Camoranesi, Poulsen, Zebina, Zanetti and Tiago.

    5 first team starters missing.

    Fantastic result for them.

Tiago wouldn't be a starter. We were trying to get shot him last year. IMHO Juve are about 4 decent players short of a very good side. Would love to see Benzema become our new Zidane. Also need a world class defender and midfielder. Attack is covered pretty well with Pinturicchio, Amauri, Trezeguet and Iaquinta.

Benzema isn't really anything like Zidane really is he? and wasn't Zidane **** for Juventus?

Poulsen is a joke of a player. Sissoko though...immense.

Go into 606..Its getting typed up there..dunno why
    sample of it
1947: First effort on goal from Roma is a long-range effort from Daniele De Rossi that bobbles hopelessly wide. C'mon guys - we won't break the 36-goal mark with shots like that.

1946: No goals anywhere around Europe tonight yet. The Champions League is so boring these days...

1945: We are under way in Madrid and at Stamford Bridge.

1944: Atletico fans are booing the Uefa Champions League anthem...presumably because of the punishment handed out by European football's governing body that put the venue of this match in doubt.
Uefa lifts home ban on Atletico

1942: The Chelsea and Roma players are out on the pitch...as are Atletico Madrid and Liverpool at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. Not long to go now folks.

1940: Chelsea fans arriving at Stamford Bridge tonight were greeted by a free scarf waiting for them on their seat. A nice touch from Roman Abramovich that - I can vouch for it being a cold night in west London and the credit crunch is also beginning to bite.

Take Messi off at halftime, don't want him getting injured in these slippery conditions... :pac:

Rotation is an excellent thing when you've got excellent squad depth! Nice to see so many La Masia products in the squad too, Puyol, Valdes, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Bojan, Busquets, Sanchez and Pedro.

2 goals in the first 4 minutes of the 2nd half of the Barca game.. Ouch... Xavi and Bojan...

    5-0

What do you unbiased people think of Bojan? His first goal was very like Rooney's from last night, and his second was a good strikers 1on1 finish. Do you think he'll be a Raul type of figure, or just an overhyped youngster?

He's without a doubt the real deal for me. Another year and he'll be demanding a starting place in the Barca first team imo.
Wouldnt be suprised if he got a call up for the World Cup.

dont buy the hype....a good player not a great player. But definetly in the Raul mould tho.

Yeah, but I think Benzema has the potential. He's still only 21. Zidane was a legend for Juve even though we would have liked to have won more CL finals. You will never hear any Juve fan say a bad word about him.

I always looked at Zidane at his peak when he was at Juve, untouchable at times.

Barca game was so one sided it was not funny. Some great football played, and 0-5 almost flattered Basel.

    A few points
    - I think Busquets will develop into an absolutely fantastic player.
    - Bojan, despite scoring 2, has alot to learn. Could have had a hatful had he kept his concentration
    - The ref took pity on Basel in the first half, as the keepers foul on Messi was a Peno, and a sending off.
    - Hleb is not a top class player. I see why Arsenal fans complain about him now. Two great chances to score, but passed to players in worse positions or took an extra touch. Worst signing i remember Barca making in quite some time.

Good old Ronnie Whelan 'Terry doesn't score many goals but he'll get you 5 or 6 important goals a season'.

I wasnt referring to Tiago I was referring to the five first team starters missing them being :

    Trezeguet
    Buffon
    Zebina
    Poulsen
    Camoranesi

The group stages in the Champions League are a joke. The English teams are so strong now, they might as well be given a bye rather than wasting time.

I disagree these things go in cycles. Remember we had an all Italian final? Milan and Juventus used to dominate now its Man United and Chelsea.

Before, we had strong Portuguese, Dutch and German teams. They're all pretty much gone and now we have a English-Spanish-Italian axis that dominates everything. All clubs outside of that are so far behind, I can't ever see them catching up.

    Don't be silly.

English teams were nowhere in europe in the early to mid 90s.

Cycles happen. English football won't sustain it's current levels for ever. It can't.

You'll start to see a few eastern european countries come more and more into the mix aswell.

Good result for both spanish teams in Madrid tonight;)
