    ..on loan.

Just saw it on sky news there, looking to get him for January.

It says here that he just wants to train with them to keep the fitness up.. who knows!

According the the BBC he'll be joining them on a 6 month loan. I didn't see that coming. Do Milan need a midfielder?

18 months too late. He really should have taken their offer when leaving Madrid, as he has been showing in an England shirt that he can still perform on the top level.

Still though, in an era where some players seem very blasse about turning out for their country (and i'm not just referring to Daddy Dick), it's great to see someone go to such lengths to still put himself in contention for his country. It would be all too easy for him to put the feet up in LA LA Land, and talk shop with Cruise, Smith, and all his other U.S chums.

In ten years time, I think people will look back, and cast the circus aside, and begin to appreciate Beckham for what he really is, a top class pro who is a credit to his profession and his country.

Would he not be better off joining somebody where he'll actually get a game. Admitedly I don't really watch Italian football, but I'm guessing they'll have wingers in the squad who'll be ahead of Beckham.

I was going to say its warmer in Italy in January, but thats certainly not true in Milan.

    Still a fashion capital :)

In fairness, I agree that it's a good sign of his professionalism - as an Arsenal fan, I'll always appreciate how good he supposedly was to the youngsters while training with them last year and the fact that he travelled over to Martin Keown's testimonial on a dodgy autumn weeknight to show his respect even though Madrid wouldn't let him play for more than a token 2 minutes.

What they are looking for is a deadball specialist. Pirlo being injured.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,993 ✭✭✭Trippie

i read something that they were looking to transform him into a deep lying playmaker ala pirlo, all he has to do then is spray passes around the place while gattuso/ambrosini/flamini do all the grunt work.

Probably the only reason why would he go to play for Milan

The 'Quarterback' role, didn't he try that before.

He really should have went to Italy after Milan, but I'm sure he's had a good time in US, smart guy too, despite what some people might think.

He'd definitely do a job, but I think he'd need to be in a 3 man midfield with 2 others doing the leg work for him.

Luckily his game has never been based on pace or beating a player, he's still unreal at picking out passes and probably the best crosser around.

ye but there's a difference trying it in an over rated england team and a milan team with the creativity and pace in front of him that they have these days

Yup, I agree - It should work out much better with Milan.

Anyone know what difference Ronaldinho has made to Milan attendances?, Becks should have an positive affect on merchandising too.

65,000 turned up for the sampdoria game on the weekend and attendances are the highest in the league this season afaik

He still does the job for England, I reckon it is a good buy, although he has had some injury woe lately. McClaren was a clown to drop him and Capello was an even bigger clown to drag his feet about bringing him back.

Id be glad to see him rescued from the American nightmare. If you ignore the daft haircuts, diamond earrings, thong wearing and *banned Soccer forum abuse* wife, always seemed like a decent enough dude.

He's still able for the top level, and I'd say he'll be a starter for Milan.

They have an amazing squad, I wonder how far they'd go in the CL if they were in it.

    Beckham---Gattuso---Pirlo
    Kaka
    Ronaldinho
    ----Pato

    Not bad at all!

Sorry but this I have to disagree with. When McClaren took over, Beckham was all over the place. He had had a very poor World Cup, was losing his place in Real Madrid and generally hadn't performed to the top of his ability for months. Being dropped by McClaren and originally being told by Capello that he wouldn't play for Madrid again after he chose LA gave him the kick up the backside he needed.

He worked hard, regained his place at Real, put in some fantastic performances and then McClaren had the bottle to recall him for England when he realised just how much he improved. Many managers wouldn't have the courage to recall someone they originally said they didn't need.

McClaren rightly gets a slaughtering for how he failed to qualify for the Euros, but his handleing of Beckham was the one thing he actually got right in his tenure.

    Totally disagree.

Steve 'dutch' McClaren tried to make a name for himself, and act the big man by dropping Beckham from the squad. I think most would agree that Beckham should have been dropped from the starting 11, but to leave him out of the squad entirely, was foolish and was cutting the nose of to spite the face.

Beckham's presence and experience really could have helped them out in some of those qualifying games.

I think that Beckham still has a lot to offer. His delivery is still world class and he's quality at set peices. I mean, it's only a year and a half ago that he dragged Real Madrid to the La Liga title.

I completely agree with you, the difference Beckham made when he came on against Kazakhstan the other week was amazing. You cannot afford to leave an option like his dead ball and crossing abilities out of your squad altogether.

I'd still have him in the first team squad for United, and I think Ferguson would too only for the personal life stuff which meant he had to leave Old Trafford.

Everyone also goes on about his lack of pace, but in his younger days he quite often beat a man and got his cross in. I think people just see beating a man as doing Ronaldo step overs these days, moreso than the old school method of pushing the ball by a man and whipping in a cross.

I really agree with the article and I think it could revitalise his career if he's willing to learn from Pirlo. It's well known that Lampard and Gerrard isn't working in the middle and seeing as both of them offer goals and impotence going forward Beckham could easily stay back and spread the ball. Really hope it works out for him

    .

Not knocking Beckham, but continuing to play for England doesn't do his brand as still a world-class player any harm to the Yanks either. I'm not certain that all Beckham's bottom-line is always about football these days.

I do agree though, that he has always been a good pro and a better player than some give him credit for.

And the wife is behind the move, no doubt. :)

Yes it was Susy's piece alright, the reaction she gets is hilarious when she goes "hello Boys" or "hows my favourite boys" on the guardian pod cast. The lads sound like they're creaming themselves everytime she opens her mouth

I have to laugh at some of these "Becks is such a great profressional" comments on here. If he is such a great pro and dedicated to his team, why is he going to miss the first 2 and a half months of Galaxy's season? Thats some commitment for a player who's stated goal when he first came to the US was to build the game here. While he has been somewhat a success in MLS in that more people come to see him play, his play has been rather poor. He looks like he is just going through the motions.

Yea and the NI players were dying to get one over England so they were never going to give him the time he needed on the ball in that position.
I could see him surviving in a CM pairing with Gattuso or as part of a 3 man CM.
Didin't realise it was only a loan for a few months like what Larsson did at UTD.
