Yeah, Chinese Democracy is gonna be the first in a trilogy, According to Axl's minutes, the third one hopes to be completed and released by 2012.

Of course, Axl's clock works a lot differently to the rest of the world ;)

True that, People say it took 15+ years, but they're been playing some of these songs the last 7 or 8 years already. Why it was never released back then who knows, but we at least have it now :D

Basically because Axl is a perfectionist. He's the kinda person who would scrap six years worth of work because one chord is out of place. Add to that, complications with distrubution and trying to justify the amount of money spent by Geffen on production and recording, to get them to fork out more for distrubition.

    lol, dear god no!.

I remember other track names floating about a couple of years ago like Thyme, General, Seven, Checkmate??...maybe this one was on the album under a different name.

Four words that are worse than any of those above

    COCK A ROACH SOUP!

Pretty decent album. Some of the stuff is better than I thought it would be. Street of Dreams was better live back in 2001, catcher in the rye and I.R.S are just crap, but everything else has something decent going on and some cracking solos. I've heard the demos, and where Bumblefoot overdubbed, tends to be the more grating parts of the album.

Oh ******' pleeeeeeeeeeeease:rolleyes:. Catcher is a fantastic song. The worst songs on the album are Scraped and Riad(I just never could get into this song!), the rest of it is cool. It's hard to make a proper judgement on it after only a couple of listens....?

I haven't even got through a full listen yet, it's really quite bad.

The only song I'm not really into is Catcher In The Rye. The rest are quality. This album needs to be listened to on the best soundsystem possible.

    Alan's ten sense

Does anyone know if Trent Reznor is getting royalties from this album ?
If he's not I bet he's pissed off that he's not!

It's an NIN/Industrial Metal sounding heavily produced album with some odd sprinklings of attempts at "melody" . On paper that sounds like a terrible idea I think.

    Stuff I like :

Better - loved this one since I first heard it. Deadly riff, lyrics and a decent rhythm.

Madagascar - Again, I've loved it since I first heard it. Still do. It's the closest thing on the album to a real Guns n Roses song. Some of the guitars sound like they're trying to be Estranged. Still love it , great horn riff, love the middle breakdown and I really like the lyrics even if they were written yonks ago.

Rhiad and the Dedouins - this is probably the most NIN metal sounding song of the album. I like it just for that delayed riff at the start. Axl trying to reinvent some Welcome to the Jungle style success ? Does anyone care ? Our survey says no

Sorry - Sorry, I really love this song. There's more breathing space ,it's not as crammed as the rest of the songs.
It's horribly out of place next to the cheesy 70's porn style "If the World" and all the industry sounds.

Chinese Democracy is a decent single. It's very in your face just for the hell of it though. Very noisy.

The rest of the album's very bad. It's not the second coming that Mr. Rose has been predicting and promising for 17years. It's a damn outrage that the Guns 'n' Roses name is on this. If it was called an Axl Rose album that'd be grand but having the GnR name attached to it sullies the entire package.

I wouldn't be happy if I paid for this. Listening to it free isn't too bad though. The aforementioned songs are listenable.

Can't agree with you at all there Al, when i think of Industrial Metal, I think of maybe Rob Zombie, Ministry, Gravity Kills, hell i'll even throw Prong in there. Chinese Democracy is a far cry from all of those.

Where are you going with 17 years? 17 years ago the Use Your Illusion album had only been released a couple of months earlier?!
And i'm getting a bit tired of "the guns n roses name" speech. It's Axl's f*cking band! He calls the shots and people don't like it, they can get the f*ck out, it's that simple! The existing line up has lasted longer than Appetite and Illusion lineups combined.

Which is fair enough, although i do think your comparisons are somewhat flawed in places, especially comparing it to Industrial.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Catcher In The Rye is one of my favourites, although the lack of Brian May is a shame, but still....CITR is better than Scraped, which is the only song I cannot get behind on a great album

The worst songs on the album are Scraped and Riad(I just never could get into this song!)
They're two of my favourite songs off the album. Scraped is awesome! I always loved Riad too, since the early live versions, though I know a lot of people didn't for whatever reason.

Catcher in the Rye has been butchered, the demo was much better.

I'm not fond of IRS or Madagascar. Better is a bit meh, never was mad about it.

Sorry and If the World are deadly and somewhat "different", Chinese Democracy and Shackler's Revenge are great, solid rockers.

Street of Dreams and Prostitute are ok. The 2001/2002 version of the former was better.

And There Was a Time is the best song on the album, and the outro solo is one of the best of all time.

    But that's just my opinion...

If you read through the posts here and elsewhere and the reviews of this album, you'll notice that people have vastly different opinions on what's good and bad on this album, and in general, everyone seems to really like at least a few tracks. That's what makes it great IMO.

    That's my €0.02 anyway.

"If the world" sounds like it came from a porno, perhaps that's why it's different :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,916 ✭✭✭RonMexico

Sure a bit of porn never harmed anyone :pac:

Maybe Axl got the groove from one of those hardcore pornos that Buckethead had playing endlessly in the studio in his chickencoop.

I read your timeline thread. Some of that stuff is surreal. It goes beyond Spinal Tappage and into bizarro territory

Just to mention, there is a rumour going around the net at the moment, that the band will be in attendance and performing at the American Music Awards tonight in the US

Who's left in the band at this stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭A Primal Nut

Four of the most important members who made the album aren't in the band upon release of the album: Buckethead (the star), Paul Huge, Robin Finck and Brain. Instead there's Bumblefoot, who made some small rhythm contributions to each song and a couple of mediocre solos, Richard Fortus who is barely on the album and Frank Ferrer, who replaced Brain on a couple of tracks for no reason. Tommy, Chris and Dizzy are all still in the band although funnily enough; they posted the names of the guys still in the band on a press release on the official website; then it was updated with Chris deleted; then they removed the list of band members altogether to remove any confusion. WTF?

I'm not sure Axl wants this album to be a success; he turned down every request for an interview; I've heard of letting the music do the talking, but the lack of promotion for one of the most talked-about albums in history is incredible - once it was finally released it just happened with minimal fuss - I have loads of GnR fans who have no idea the album has been released. Compared to AC/DC and obviously, Metallica, whom everybody knew about.

It would be nice if they at least made a video - would be nice to see this lineup getting played on the video channels, although i guess it could'nt be performance based one without Buckethead, Finck or Brain.

One word sums up this album:

    EPIC.

    NOO!!!

Since when was Paul Huge an important member? He's a key factor in the almost self destruction of the band! :)

Is this a joke? The album is being promoted everywhere.

I'm a big fan of AFD and Slash. I despise Axl Rose and everything he has come to represent. I wanted this album to be one big fail. But it's not, musically it's got a lot going for it.

Not my cup of tea - too soft, overproduced and pop-ish in places - but credit where it's due, possibly one of the best albums this year.

Did anyone else catch that idiot muso journalist Una something-or-other from the Sunday Tribune on Today FM this morning? She's a self proclaimed The Killers fan (this immediately makes anything she has say redundant TBH) and was slating Chinese Democracy saying it had nothing to offer to today's generation of music fans and that it was one of the worst albums she's ever heard!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,602 ✭✭✭✭ShawnRaven

Una Mullaly, she's 25 years old and doesn't know sh*t about sh*t when it comes to music.
Probably bitter because The Killers latest piece of tripe has flopped already.

Big reason not to take her seriously, right here!

    totally mind blowing album.

the funny thing is that everybody seems to like different songs more than others. some peoples worst songs are other peoples favourite songs.

    that is nuts!!

if the world is such an unexpected surprise. what a song!!!

Ha ha, that's the one that sticks in my head too! I love the solo guitar work on this and on the song that follows it.
