    It has finally happened !!!!
A poacher has got a jail sentence.
You may remember a few months the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board had a problem when a case in Castleblaney was struck out against 2 alleged poachers on technical grounds. The Board refused to give up and got the case re-instated. Summons were duly served on the defendants.
The case was heard on Monday by Judge Sean McBride who has consistently given heavy fines in poaching cases.
The court heard that Valeris Petrovs and Fevgenigs Pacurs were apprehended by court appointed angling club waterkeepers who found them illegally netting coarse fish in the Castleblaney area. An inflatable dingy, net and a large number of bream were seized be fisheries board staff and gardai who had been called to the scene.
Neither defendant appeared in court. Judge Sean McBride ordered that Mr Petrovs serve two 6 month concurrent sentences and a fine of €250 . Mr Pacurs was given a €1000 fine with 1 month to pay. Total costs awarded to the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board in costs amounted to €2480. A warrant for the arrest of Mr Petrovs was issued.
It is not certain that the two defendants are still in the country. The were a few weeks ago when the summons were served.
This is a landmark case. It is now established that poachers can and will go to prison for their crimes.
    Well done Judge Sean McBride.

That's excellent news. Plenty of damage to Ireland's fishing, and fishing tourism has already been done by these greedy poachers.
Maybe things are beginning to slowly turn around.

Here's hoping. I must say that I'm not impressed with the amount of venue naming that has been going on here on this forum. How the hell are we to protect fish stocks when muppets on this forum are giving out directions to venues only for every fecker in the nation to arrive on a water. I have been reading some of the posts here and it is my opinion that there are a few "fish killers" using this forum to gather info in venues to hit and by hit i mean catch and kill anything they can get their hands on. It's high time this stopped.

There is a case, given the fish poaching activities going on, and poachers usage of forums to target fish stocks, for moderators in the angling forum to delete named waters from posts.

I thought about starting a thread on "over-specific-information" a while ago, but decided to let things lie at the time.
    What do other contributors think?

Fair play to the ERFB, well done on getting this case back on track and getting an end result.
