help with xbox 2 red ring

Hi a friend of mine has a 360 less then a year and it now wont read any discs he cant find the recipt he gave it to me and asked if i could send it of for him as he would not be there for ups

When i rang up microsoft they said it was out of waranty and the only thing that was still covered was the 3 red ring

So i decided to try to red ring it wraped it up in towls tryed removeing the heat sink heating it with a hairdrier but all i get is the 2 red ring is there any way i can get it to red ring so it can be fixed it is for his kids and they are at him looking for there xbox so i could reely use any help

So it won't read discs and also has 2 red rings?

The 2 red rings could be the E74 error which has to be sent of to get fix, same with the dvd drive it will have to be replaced. Both of which MS will probably charge him for.. I think the best bet would be to pick up a arcade for 170 or 180 im not sure the price and use the old hard drive.. Im sure someone would take that 360 for parts or something on adverts.ie

It only gets the 2 red ring when i try to over heat it if i tun it on now it will just have the probluem with the dvd drive i just want to over heat it and get the 3 red ring and get it to stay


Think ill just have to get him to get a new drive but he wants me to do the drive spofing etc dont mind doing it as long as its not to hard to do

The xbox itself is under warranty for RROD but if you tell em the dvd is broken as well they will charge you and you will have to tell them its broken..!

Best bet id say is send it back to MS for a new dvd drive.. if its too expensive buy one off ebay.. of course you will have to void your warranty installing it.

Isn't 2 red ring the sign of a dodgy AV connection? Did you try another cable? You might be lucky.
