    hey,
i'm looking to buy an Audi TT, probably coupe 03 and have come across incredible price differences from different websites. This is gonna be my first time buying a car so very much unsure as to what to be looking for?

So i have seen on Carzone.ie a 03 Coupe 38,000 miles selling for 8k but if i look on Carbuyersguide the closest the price comes in at 19k... huh?

Does anyone have any tips for buying an Audi TT, i really like them as a car and would love to buy one!

cheers for any help you can give...

That one for 8k would be a scam I'd say..

You wouldn't even get a 00 one for 8k, buying 03 expect no change from 20k..

Just be aware of scam add's... prices tend to be way lower than market value... Carzone is full of them !!

€18k - €20k would seem about right for that year......

Ah yes, a very valid reason for this.

The car was owned by their brother who moved to liverpool with the car(oh..and subsequently died), they are in the usa now and have no use for it so they just need to sell the car.

    makes perfect sense! :D

Check everything is okay with the dashpod (dashboard) or if it has been taken care of by an Audi garage if there has been a problem with it. There should be a timing belt and water pump change done on it at some stage (I think...). If not, you are probably going to do it soon and that will cost a bit.

The car you mentioned is most definitely a scam. 19-21 k is what you'll be looking at. I don't think going to the UK will help a lot, because the VRT on these are sky high due to the TT having a lousy emissions record (I think it is 216 g/km, which puts it in the ~34% VRT area!). Thankfully I got my '05 in before that came in.

They are a great car. Well be selling mine soon, but am definitely going to get another one.

I've had 2 - great cars, but they do need TLC, and they can be....fragile.

Electronics, esp dashboard etc can be cock-a-hoop. Timing belt + pump at 60k iirc, and timing belt+chain at the 110k mark (approx). There have been 3 recalls (at least) in it's lifetime, so check they've been done.

A guy here at work is selling his 00 one, but even that's more than that scam one (17k he wants, iirc, for a 270bhp remapped one).

user_name_d - Guy I work with is selling a black 02 TT at the moment, nice looking car (he's trying to get a saloon to carry babies). Looking to trade in at the moment but I'm sure he'd be happy to sell straight. Not sure what he's looking for it, if you have any interest in making contact with him send me a PM.

No links, it's not advertised. As for the remap, that's just the engine.......I haven't listed the rest of the mods.

Cars like that sell on condition, and history - the market is full of the other kind.

I had a 00 1.8T TT Quattro 180bhp. Some people say they are just golfs in a fancy suit etc but I found it to be a very very good car. Paid around 19k - 20k for it 2.5 years ago and sold it almost 2 years later for 15k straight sale so worked out ok.
I found the handling to be excellent and even on rough surfaces you could throw it around and was very predictable with a very controllable rear slide if ya really acted the idiot with it.
I found the interior to be very well made with no rattles even at 8 years old and me having driven it for 2 years on bad roads.
I bought it with 70k and sold with 110k roughly and apart from servicing and brake pads, All I replaced on it were the rear shocks and a new battery.

I did notice however that the previous owner spent a fortune on maintaining it (all receipts kept) even though all he had done was servicing including timing belt, and an air flow meter. There were some huge bills. So I guess get a good small garage to look after it if you buy one and not a main dealer who charges 200-300 for an oil change and some checks.

A colleage had one, and it broke her to keep on the road. It is quite troublesome, and the bills tended to be massive.

You sold an 8 year old TT with 110k miles on it for €15k?

You did very well. The buyer didn't. :D

    Nonsense.

Last March a 00 TT in from UK, 100k miles, + VRT came to 17k.

    Good point :)

The selling price by definition is an equilibrium. It is where both seller and buyer are happy. I did a fair bit of book learning about that in my time :D

That said, I still feel the buyer could have done a lot better. You'd nearly get an 8 year old high mileage Boxster for that kinda money

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,776 ✭✭✭✭galwaytt

    Fair enough UNK.

Mind you, the TT is at least fixable by anyone who knows VW's. The Boxster will - and I do mean will - need more tlc. And more often!

And, in my experience, the cost of repairs is directly related to the badge on the bonnet.............;)

I had the flywheel in my 968 changed locally, recently. Had to remove half the car to do it........cost me Eur998 inc VAT for labour.

An acquaintance had a not dissimilar job (gearbox swop) done on his 964 recently too, at a renowned 'marque specialist'. Eur 2400 for labour.

Mind you, TB change on a TT is a complete balls to do.......

Didn't someone post here recently that that very job was costing him €1,500 on a Ford Focus?

Anyway, I think we already agree that manuals are for the history books. Single and dual flywheels and all the rest of that sh1te go to hell please :D

    Sorry for further O/T :o

    I do agree - but mine was a Tiptronic !! :o:o
