i was thinking about it with a couple of mates, but after looking at some of the pics from previous years it looks just a tad too hardcore for me. :)

There's a big gallery of pictures from this year's 3 Peaks over on the Devon 4x4 site-

The 3 Peaks is a little unusual, in that it's as 'heavy duty' as any challenge event in Ireland or the U.K., but it's non-competitive, so there's a different atmosphere there.
Many of the heavy hitters from the U.K. and European challenge circuit have made it a permanent fixture on their calendars, bringing along their buddies and significant others for a mad weekend in Ireland and a taste of a full-on challenge event without the stress and pressure of it being part of a championship or for trophies/prizes.
As such, quite a few of them use it as a test event for new vehicles and equipment, where it can be tested (to destruction, if necessary) under the full conditions of a competition, without running the risk of sacrificing championship points or placings by doing the same in an 'ordinary' event.

We got away pretty lightly this year, with only one broken CV and a burnt out winch motor to our names, along with some minor fibreglass damage and bent bits of rollcage. Oh yeah, and a couple of sheared off door mirrors. :D

Even if someone has no intention of taking part, it'd be worth their while coming along in the morning to see the event roll out of town; there are a lot of 'unique' vehicles to be seen.
