Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Warning: Upgrading to Flash10 breaks most photo uploaders including Pixie & Flickr

Perhaps you guys already know about this, but this is news to us...

We recently received a bunch of reports that Flash 10 has broken the Pixie photo uploader and can now confirm that this is the case. Flickr is also broken.

Flash 10 introduced a new security measure which prohibits the calling of the File Browse dialog from code. This means all flash based file uploader applications need to be radically changed in order to function with Flash 10.

This change is affecting all flash based file uploaders across the web including Pixie, Flickr, Wordpress etc.

The immediate resolution is to downgrade Flash to version 9 - I don't have any links to the downgrade procedure yet, perhaps someone can post one here?

Pixie is currently working on making changes that will ensure compatibility with Flash 10.

I came across this a few days ago. On Adobe's website you can download both an uninstaller (to uninstall the browser plugins) as well as an archive containing all available versions of version 9.0 (for all platforms, and therfore rather huge!) I can't for the life of me find it on the website right now, but bear with me and I'll try and find it.

EDIT: Here it is ... http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp9_archive.zip

you want one of the installers from the 9r124 in that zip archive, e.g. flashplayer9r124_win.exe for Windows. BTW the versions ending in _sa are standalone flash players, not browser plugins.

and here's the link to the uninstaller which you need to run first...

Ta very much Alun, I was one of the people who even b4 flash 10 came out today was having major problems with flash and had to use html to upload to youtube and pixie, which for utube especially is far far slower.

Should this be a STICKY until resolved ?

Ok rolled back to 9r124 and can now see the flash upload to pix.ie, but as usual mine sticks, this is an ongoing problem I have many months.

BTW Jason fixed a similar "sticking" problem by resetting his router back to factory defaults...

    Marcus, two quick questions,

1: Since you have seen how a third party can break the upload facility to your site, have you any plans for some more specialised uploaders? In my case and for most of the folks around here who use Lightroom, a pix.ie version of Jeffrey Friedl’s flickr upload to flickr plugin would be great.

2: Now that putplace is out of beta, and since you are both Irish whats the chance of emulating their flickr connectivity.

Odd thing I can upload easily with HTML.
This is more of an annoying problem with youtube.

I'm not familiar with that plug in... I'll check it out.

We are more than happy to hook up with PutPlace and have spoken to their CEO Joe, on numerous occasions about working together... Give him a push too and I'm sure we'll sort it soon.
