Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Future European Goalscoring Legend

    European football has always been the pinnacle of association football. International football may have the World Cup or the European Championships, but it personally does not even compare to the class and strength of Europe's Domestic and Continental competitions. Throughout the history of European Club football, there have only been 8 elite players who have exceeded 50 European Goals. Those 8 are;

    Filippo Inzaghi
    Raul Gonzalez
    Gerd Muller
    Andriy Shevchenko
    Ruud Van Nistelrooy
    Eusebio
    Thierry Henry
    Alfredo Di Stefano

5 of those players came from the same generation and they went on to trump the records of many legendery players. It is very conceivable that the new generation would go on to beat the elite 8 and break even more records. From the new generation 5 players come to mind,

    _44297698_benzema2_afp416.jpg
Karim Benzema Age: 20 Goals: 10
The most developed player from the list. The brilliant Frenchman has already scored 10 goals for Lyon in Europe. Having the advantage of playing first team football before the other four, he has already built up a strong and formidable lead. With Lyon always expected to qualify for Europe, he is in the right place to further add to his already impressive tally.

    sergio-aguero370x270.jpg
    Sergio Aguero, Age:20 Goals: 8
One of the most talented players in world football. He started his Champions League campaign in emphatic fashion, scoring 3 goals in as many games. Unlike his competition bar Pato, he benefited largely from the Uefa Cup where he notched up 5 goals. Aguero may well have to move to one of Europe's biggest clubs, to further his Champions League record.

Theo Walcott, Age: 19 Goals: 4
His most recent goal came against Fenerbahce at their fortress in Turkey. Unfazed by big moments, he has already left his mark against legendery European teams like Liverpool and AC Milan. Despite playing out of position, he has conjured up 4 goals. His biggest test will be when he is reverted back to a striker.

    bojan.jpg
    Bojan Age: 18 Goals: 3
The Spanish kid is one of Barcelona's most potent forwards, having scored 2 goals in their recent demolition of Basel. He will immensely benefit from some of the best creators in football to provide him with the ammunition to score goals. Having 3 goals to his name already, he is expected to reach the very top once he has fully developed.

    fiorentina_milan_pato1.jpg
Alexandre Pato Age: 19 Goals: 1
The Brazilian broke his duck in the Uefa Cup with a stunning freekick against FC Zurich. He has appeared in the least amount of European games than the other 4, but he is at a team who almost always get's close to the final. He may be significantly behind Benzema and Aguero, but his immense ability will mean that he shouldn't be left behind.

Keep in mind that the least talented of the current generation is top(Filippo Inzaghi), the best player in the list may not necessarily mean the most number of goals. So who do you think will reach the furthest?

Babel is 21 with 9 european goals, 5 at pool and 4 at Ajax.

I can see Rooney, Torres, Ronaldo, Messi and a few others reaching that milestone quicker than the 5 names in the OP.

meh, Walcott is the only one there who will definitely be world class. Benzema? Cant judge until he gets out of the pretty weak French league, and he hasnt done a pile for the national team so far.

Del Piero surely will this season.

you said it. there more interesting and relevant stat in comparing with the past masters would be the goals to appearances ratio.

I agree with the lads above. These current guys have played far more games. Look at Eusebio's record. Blow your mind.

The old guys might have had less games to play in their days but in those days a 1st round draw against a real small club was still possible.
With a goealscoring feast as a result.
Feyenoord from Holland holds the record of most goals scored over 2 legs (21-0) for example. A score that probably never will be broken.

If we really want to talk about the highest level should we not limit discussion to the Champions League? The UEFA Cup is significantly below standard these days.

    Pato at AC Milan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandre_Pato
    Altidore at Villareal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jozy_Altidore
    Bolotelli At Inter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Balotelli
    Sulejmani at Ajax http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miralem_Sulejmani
    Agbonlahor at Villa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Agbonlahor

some obscure ones here that have not been named yet. , but great potential all the same,

I really still think Walcott is mehtastic, I also think Pato is the most overrated young player in the world. Next Ronaldo? Please... Dembélé if he moves to a big club is another player with great potential. Also, Gonzalo Higuain, Giuseppe Rossi, and there's also a young African playing for a Ligue 1 team (can't remember his name) that has bags of potential.

I'd say Del Piero will be next to break 50 (what's he on at the moment?).

I can see Benzema and Aguerro from the OP's five doing it. Walcott needs to add A LOT more goals to his game if he's going to make it to 50, imo. I haven't seen enough of Bojan or Pato to really rate them.

I imagine Ronaldo will come close. Higuain and Messi could be others.

    Oh come on.

Benzema is quite obviously a class player, and has probably more credentials than Walcott at this moment in time.

Have we got to the stage now where any player outside of ENgland and Spain is disregarded as an also ran?

Benzema/ Aguero are the ones that will be truely unbelievable talents going on current growth and development. They will be the new Henry's and Batistuta's of this world.
