Buying Irish shares through european exchanges

    Hi
Does anybody know, if you buy Irish shares (such as AIB for example) with a broker through a European exchange like Xetra or the London stock exchange, is this any different to buying shares from the Irish stock exchange?
The reason I ask is that european brokers can often be cheaper. Are there any pitfalls with this?
    Thanks!
