    hello,

filled our home heating tank with kerosene instead of diesel or gas oil. foolishly presumed that it took kerosene.

    will the burner work ok?

what about efficiency, probably wasted money.

Loads of threads here on that topic like this one.... http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055398763&highlight=kerosene Maybe do a search.

In a sentence your boiler will be fine just might want to lower the pump pressure slightly. You'll be better off as kerosene is cheaper and runs hotter than diesel. It's also much cleaner.

thanks was worried that the boiler might stop.

what ive noticed is that the boiler seems to remain "on" all the time. like at home you hear our boiler turn on and off every so often.

the boiler itself seems to be old.bigger than new ones. but the red box itself is is new.

is it difficult to change the pressure. i think thats why the boiler doesnt cut on and off. im not a diy guy.

def agree with kero being cleaner. all we can smell is diesel fumes from our next door neighbour.

You really should have the boiler serviced. If it is running constantly, the nozzle is probably too small, and the oil pressure and air will have to be re-set. Unless it is set correctly, it will not be economical.
It sounds like you have a newish burner, so it can handle kerosene OK.

I agree, you may be burning too much/too little fuel. A service person would adjust the burner to burn kero in no time.

The reason your boiler is probably running longer
is that Kerrosene does not have as high a calorific value as diesel so you will need to burn more.
and as the previous posts say if it incorrectly setup it will not run effieciently.

it is not true that Kerosene runs hotter than diesel, Diesels higher calorific value = more heat per Kg or more energy this is why we use Diesel in our cars.
Kerosene is cleaner and cheaper though and that is why I use it.

You would want to spend a bit of time shopping around if you paid that for kero unless it was for 200 litres or less. Kerosene at the moment is working out at about 57c/l for 1000 litres. Diesel is about 3c per litre more.
