    Quick question about canopies,
I have been asked to draw up a set of plans for a canopy to the front of a house, similar to this below:

    door%20canopy%20with%20barge%20board.jpg

However, instead of it being just over the door, the person wants it to run the length of the house, and maybe have a couple of brick pillars to the sides of the front door.
The house is a semi detached house in a housing estate.

My question is, does this require PP, or is it exempt?, all i can find in tha planning leaflets is that a porch of 2m x 2m square is exempt, but this is not really a porch as its not enclosed, and it most likely wont extend anymore than a metre from the front wall of the house.

    it requires planning:

    CLASS 3
    The construction, erection or placing
within the curtilage of a house of any
tent, awning, shade or other object,
greenhouse, garage, store, shed or other
    similar structure.

    1. No such structure shall be constructed,
erected or placed forward of the front
    wall of a house.

    Thanks Syd,
Unfortunately that may make them think twice about doing it though

As stated by Syd it does need permission and unless there has been a precedent established for similar type canopies in the immediate vicinity I wouldnt be too optimistic about getting permission.

a semi-D in an estate has a better shot than most though.

also, the additional cost for them for planning is minor, €200 maybe

A quick follow up query here:
Do canopies still require planning permission?

I'm thinking of putting a 6m one on an extension to my house, it would not break the building line and would be to the back the house over a patio. Will it require pp?
