Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has anyone ever used one of these, and are they good?
    Any recommendations?
Are they even legal (workplace issue)?

There is plenty of stuff out there to capture passwords and all computer activity. It would not be illegal to use this type of software on your own computers. However, it would be illegal to use captured passwords to gain access to someone else's email etc.

Many spyware programs will detect these programs if they are running in the background.

There are 2 types of KL. One is software based, which will record all key strokes and then upload the raw data every few hours to a ftp server or email it out.

The other type is a hardware keylogger, very similar to a usb drive and stored all the info on a chip.

Easy to find both of them on the net, but highly illegal to use on a computer you do not own.

Any antivirus/anti spyware worth its salt should throw a fit if one of these get installed. If this is in the work place installing this would be a very serious matter unless authorised for a specific purpose and id seriously recommend you dont do it unless you're a member of the IT department, if not you'll mostly likely get stopped by the anti virus, and wont be able to disable it to get it installed if the company security policy is up to scratch.

I have a friend who is a PI. He asked me to look in to this area for him about a year ago. I came to the conclusion that the easier one to use was the hardware keystroke logger, which is inserted between the keyboard and the PS/2 or USB port (depending on which type of keyboard is being used)

Best option if the PC is on the floor. Software loggers are prone to being found, crashing, being picked up by AV (as mentioned above). They also require booting the PC, gaining accessing to the OS to install the logger

It never came about that I did any work for him but my plan was to
    a) enter the building and locate the PC
    b) connect the device between the keyboard and port
    c) return the next day and retrieve.

    Cheers for that.
I'd need it on a laptop, so hardware would be ruled out.
As I've ownership over the laptop, I could possibly turn off virus checking software etc.. to ensure no issues with recording software.

Any recommendations of such software? Would it cost much?
