Removing ivy growing in Laurel hedge

    Hi there,

Our back and front gardens have laurel hedges on either side which are over 40 years old. One of our neighbours has quite an overgrown garden (front and back) and this dark green ivy is growing from their garden in through the hedge. The hedge at the back is about 30 ft long: at the front about 25 ft long.

One part of the hedge appears to be choking with the ivy - ie the leaves have fallen and the bush appears dead.

I have a feeling that if we don't do something soon we will lose both hedges, front and back - is there any way to remove the ivy other than painstakingly picking it off (which would take months). Is there anything we can do to get our neighbour to address the ivy situation in their garden? I would hate to pick it all off for it all to grow back.....We get on well with them and have mentioned it before but their garden just gets more overgrown.....

    Thanks in advance
