The real sinker for McCain was that all week he has been ridiculing Obama for his upcoming "Presidential Address" - when in fact it felt like nothing of the sort.

Aye, he was right off the mark with that one.
Someone is now sacked for giving him the wrong tip-off! LOL :D

Even post it on youtube if he can't afford the TV time.

An issue noted as a possible source of backlash, given that it's the most extravagant single use of funds so far, funds which he had said initially he wasn't going to use.

Care to explain any of that? Or are you just talking out of your arse?

Does anyone really care about the campaign financing issue? That is besides McCain himself? I mean after a campaign that has seen Obama accused of being everything from a Muslim to a terrorist to a socialist, are voters really going to care that he broke a promise to use public financing? I thought McCain looked very weak when he brought it up in the last debate.

Maybe when you can ask a question without being profane i'll explain further.

Leave the moderating to the moderators, thanks. In the meantime, I'd also like to hear an explanation for your last post.

todolist is entitled to an opinion, whether it is ill-informed depends on whether they explain.

On the other hand, this is a discussion forum, soapboxing doesn't go down well here, if you're going make a statement, at least have the courtesy to explain it.

I'm not going to engage with someone who asks me a question in that offensive fashion.I'll have the courtesy to reply when I'm asked in a proper respectful way.

How is he a con? Lackeys? Correct me if I'm wrong but before the GOP got hold of Washington in 2001 things were going pretty well for everyone involved, including The North.

    Moi?

Makes no difference to me whether you explain yourself, if you do so and do so successfully then you'll have backed yourself up and people will respect your opinion, if you decide not to then you'll void your own post because it will be interpreted as the ramblings of a person who...well.... can't explain themselves!!

Slightly OT, but Obama made a speech in Canton, Ohio the other day. Here's the last few minutes of it. Even if you're a McCain fan you can't deny that Obama is an amazingly powerful public speaker and he knows how to work a crowd.

Let me spell it out for you.

You came in here with a throwaway remark about a candidate being a "con". You were asked (albeit not very politely) to explain that remark. You refused. You've been asked twice more - politely - to explain it. You refused.

Firing off slogans and refusing to discuss the substance behind them fits the definition of "soapboxing", which is expressly prohibited.

So, for the avoidance of doubt: you have a choice. You can either engage in constructive debate, or you can refrain from posting on this forum. Your choice.

I just watched the half-hour spot. I thought it was well done, and it can't be denied that he's a powerful orator. I think - and hope - he'll make an interesting president.

There was a nice hour-spot on one of the documentary channels last week about body language applied to the Media and politicians. They went through a bunch of stuff, like one woman's public statement about her dead son (from which, body language experts alerted police that there was a high likelihood she killed him herself - and she was later convicted), they also ran through the body language involved in Richard Nixon's crook speech, Bill Clinton's Lewinksy statement, and a general overview of how McCain uses a plain, straight talking voice to convey his message, and how Obama uses a preacher's tone in order to rally up people almost emotionally. If I could remember what the doc was called I'd toss it up here.

Overheal, I’d love to read that article if you can find it. It sounds credible.

The Obama ad was professionally done. The ‘White House’ setting was an obvious fait accompli strategy. The background music was especially chosen for its emotive effect, reminiscent of typically emotional TV dramas. The persuasive power of music (i.e. Bach Chorales), on a congregation was used extensively in the Lutheran church services in conjunction with the Lutheran preaching principles of repetition.

oscarBravo,I know from your posts that you favour Obama. It's a free country.I havent refused to explain my views.I think Senator Obama isn't telling the truth about raising taxes and introducing bigger goverment. He makes super speeches that have very little content. There's no actual policies. The GOP should use the old slogan Ronald Regan used "where's the beef" in relation to Obama. Anyway,I believe Obama is far too inexperienced to lead America as it enters the worst economic crisis in its history.

Obama speeches - like McCain speeches, are usually vague on policy specifics, but Obama's policies are well known, and easily accessed, and have been for some time now. You might not care for the policies, or choose not to believe the guy, but you can't say he has no policies.

'Where's the beef' was Mondale's (lifted) catch phrase btw - not Reagan's.

Your argument could just as easily be applied to McCain. Neither candidate speeches actually have very much policy content in any great detail. Stump speeches give a broad high-level outline of key policies of the candidate. If you want to see either candidates detailed policies, you gotta pretty much go find out yourself on their websites.

    So?
    It's a free country.
boards.ie is not a free country.
I havent refused to explain my views.
Up until this post, you had.
I think Senator Obama isn't telling the truth about raising taxes and introducing bigger goverment.
You're accusing him of lying. What's your basis for this?

I don't have a crystal ball; I don't know whether he'll fulfill his promises. As of right now, I have no reason to believe he's any less honest than any other politician, and he's certainly no less honest than Sarah Palin, who has been caught out in so many bare-faced lies I've lost count.
He makes super speeches that have very little content. There's no actual policies.
What definition of "policy" do you have to use to determine that he doesn't have any? Can you give specific examples of areas where McCain has policies, but Obama doesn't?
Anyway,I believe Obama is far too inexperienced to lead America as it enters the worst economic crisis in its history.
George W Bush has had eight years of presidential experience at this point - does anyone trust him to lead at this point? Experience is a red herring.

Watching the news last night they said that Obama's infomercial had about 33.5 million viewers.

Technically speaking, based on polls, about 16 million of those are for McCain, does anyone think it may have swayed some votes? Or was it aimed at those that are, as yet, undecided?
