After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing over the last few months, it appears that Ishii is set to compete in MMA

Last week he told the Emperor of Japan that he would not be entering the next Olympics. Now there are a lot of reports about him being on the K-1 Dynamite New Year's Eve event

It looks more likely that he'll just appear at the show and make an announcement rather than fight on it

This is big for Japanese MMA, real big. DREAM is very close to going under because they just can't get the ratings that are needed to keep them on TV. And without TV they're nothing. The Japanese MMA fanbase pretty much died with PRIDE

Ishii is the biggest sportsperson in Japan right now. If he were to fight it would be a guaranteed ratings success. It would be very similar to when Hidehiko Yoshida entered MMA, except that Ishii has more time to develop into a good MMA fighter

    Good news for MMA anyway
