Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I haven't a clue about fashion, especially ladies fashion so really looking for a ladies opinion on this please :o

I'd like to send a special someone some ear rings or a bracelet maybe. Id like it to be Irish made as she's from a long way from here and i think that would be a nice touch.

I haven't the foggiest where to start here, I'm not able to spend a huge amount, maybe around 50-100 euro or so.. (she's also getting flowers and a box of exclusive chocs too).

Anyone have any suggestions where i could start looking? Or any recommendations on stuff they thought was nice and would consider wearing themselves if their BF gave it to them?

    Thanks.

    or there's

    2. http://www.solvar.ie

Rhinestones (just across from the tourism office off wicklow street) has gorgeous vintage costume jewellery. It is quite costly but you'll be able to get something completely unusual and different for that price.

The John Rocha jelwellery range is also nice, safe and tasteful.

The powerscourt town centre has some great jewellery designer in the loft market on the top floor. MoMuse there has some beautiful Irish made pieces.

To answer about wearing myself, I personally wouldn't really wear the Newbridge stuff. Recieved some as presents and not to my taste, also tarnishes a lot (probably because I don't really do anything to take care of my jewellery, it just sits in a box) and I bought a piece for someone online that I thought was lovely and was horrified when I saw them wearing it, completely different in real life. - if you do decide to buy that (and some people do like it so don't let me prejudice you) buy it in person, not online.

If you're in Dublin, check out the Kilkenny design shop.

Other nice irish jewellery would include Alan Ardiff, It's not all shamrocks and celtic stuff, but it's unusual in a nice way.

Brian De Staic also makes some nice pieces. He has a website too and I think you can order on line. I have no connection BTW. Some of the jewellry is sold on ebay too.

Edit, just looked at the alan ardiff stuff- it is very cute. Might be just what I wanted to buy as a special christmas present for my niece. So thanks!

Thanks Glowing, i've googled the "History of Ireland" range and have found a few websites with their stuff. Definately going to go for something from that, I really think its unique and beautiful.
    Big thanks!

Cool! I think the ring in particular is really nice, it's really unusual .. and is very comfortable to wear. I live in mine. I also like the bangles.

Glad you found something you liked!

www.irishjewellery.ie - they can also make to order and it's not too expensive.
I modelled some of the stuff before and it's nice, but I didn't get any! :(

Thanks, there's some lovely stuff on there too!
I like the idea of something made in the same county I live so might pop over there next week and see the stuff first hand.

I worked in newbridge jewelery before, and would NOT give it to anybody as a gift. It is not real silver its silver plated and tarnished with any thing like perfum, body lotion, fake tan, make up. Its purely costum jewelery and expensive costum jewelery at that.

Same as above post. I sold it too and I would never give anyone a gift of it as it makes your skin go a coppery blue color. Looks great at the start but sure doesn't stay that way. It's just nickel plated with Silver.

    I like Barry Doyles work.
Large range in the shop and will do custom work if required. A bit pricey but nice original stuff (if you ignore the obligatory celtic knotwork stuff he makes for dhe tourists).

Your best bet is buying something unique, e.g. go to Cows Lane at the weekend where Irish designers sell their jewellery / clothes. There are some lovely pieces sold there. (Cows Lane up by Christchurch).

Don't bother with Newbridge - ugh it's rubbish, I hate Newbridge jewellery. I just like their cutlery and christmas decorations. As for the jewellery, hate the stuff, it's tacky and tarnishes so easily.
