Met Eireann forecast: THURSDAY NIGHT will be cold with frost and a danger of some icy roads. There will be clear periods and scattered showers, some of the showers turning wintry - showers of hail or sleet likely and a possibility of snow in places.

H'mm must have been one heavy shower..
Dew point rises here during the showers and they have all been exclusively of rain..in fact its a balmy 3.0°C with light rain and wind outside right now..tasty !

Roches Point is automated so how does it know it's snowing. I mentioned this before about Ballyhaise also, it must use a temp threshold for displaying 'snow' in the data feed to the Met HQ or unless there is a IR webcam installed for nighttime use :)
What was the temp at that report? Downdraft's would have dragged the temp down for sure but no temp displayed there Hal.

    2.4c here, Westerly strong breeze.

Just looked at the 18z for 6am :

    http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn121.png

That wind looks like changing N'easterly and with major precip occuring over the North Irish sea now, we could possibly see some heavy rain/sleet later over the east early tomorrow morning.
