i dont think its the nicest looking car in the world, but its definetly impressive, and dont they sell every one at a loss? im sure its over a million more to make then sell, and apparently the indicator stalk is made of titanium and costs 4k sterling!!
although if it weighs 1800kgs i dont see the point in titanium indicator stalks!

When Piech came out with the design envelope for the Phaeton, the enineering team scratched their collective chins and then said that it couldn't be done. Piech insisted and they went and built it.

When Piech came out with the design envelope for the Veyron, his engineers told him to **** off (only in technical terms), that this was not just mad, but impossible. Yet they built it ...the impossible car.

That in itself is impressive enough. What makes it even more impressive is the fact that in all likelyhood there will never be another car like it, never mind a better one. Much like the Concorde, it was built to see if it could be done and much like the Concorde it will sit at the top of the evolutionary tree probably forever.

    +1

    Nothing to add to that...

Saying the engine produces only 1000hp isn't imressive, maybe. But does it not make more like 3000hp, of which 2000hp are lost in cooling (amoungst other things) the monster engine behind the driver?

Concorde has been untouched in it class (large passenger airliner) since its retirement.
The veyron (supercar) has been trumped since, so it has moved down a branch on the evolutionary tree.

The term concorde moment is well past its sell by date...ohhh, the irony of it all.:P

Yes, there have been (and there probably will be a few more) cars that produce more than 1000 bhp.

But that figure alone is not the benchmark.

The benchmark is the fact that despite having 1000 bhp the Veyron can be driven in town traffic like any other car, it can be driven by any reasonably experienced driver without special training, it can be driven on the road in great comfort, it can be driven for hours without needing anything else but a refill and it doesn't need a swarm of mechanics to go over it with a fine tooth comb once you switch it off ...it'll just start and do the same thing again next time.
