i went into the offie around the corner yesterday and noticed they had a deal on where you'd get a free .5 l paulaner branded glass mug with every 3 bottles of paulaner you bought. it's their oktoberfest gift to us :D

the joys of heineken pimping the brand!

Only 3 bottles, thats a good deal. I usually only buy "premium" beers in pubs since the relative price differences between off licence and pub prices is all over the place. And many are oblivious to this. e.g. my mates would comment on me drinking "posh" "fancy" beers and that they are so expensive, yet are oblivious as to how big the bottle is, or the strength.

Got a beer for a mate in the goat yesterday, bottle of heineken for €5.20 (this was not some late night price). That works out at €8.95 per pint, that is just outrageous, and if I paid €6 for a pint I would be called a nutcase.

I think the 3-Paulaners-and-a-mug are €9.99. I've seen a few places doing Spaten Oktoberfest at 5 for €10, which is always a good offer. You can get them individually for €2.50 lots of places too.

Dunno why you'd bother with the pub at all... :)

Mchughs do paulaners 5 for 10 with a free mug if there are any left. Along with the spatan octoberfest and many others. Ask for a glass and most of the time you will get a few off them.

Which offie in town did you go to?

it was the offie beside Al mureto.

the paulaner was more expensive than other places by a few cents but with a free mug i was happy to pay.

If you went to the Oktoberfest at Georges Dock and had a big jacket you would have gotten a proper 1 litre Paulaner stein for free!

Superquinn are offering the tankard with 3 bottles. 2.79 per bottle. Are also offering 5 for 4 on world beers.

Not to mention occasional Bishop's Finger for €1.75, but always try and get it straight from the box rather than off the open display.

Is it just the regular Paulaner or do they have the Oktoberfest too?

Did that trick at the real Oktoberfest many years ago. I had a camera bag with me - stuck the stein in the bag on the way out and sauntered (merrily !) past the security guys with my camera and zoom lens around my neck.

Still have the glass but haven't used it in years !

Obviously lots of people were doing it (in dublin) because the next week they had €5 deposit for them. But they're well worth a fiver!

Lady's Well: thump on the door of Heineken Ireland and demand Paulaner. They won't be expecting that.

Have you tried the Abbot's Ale House? It's the only quality beer offy in Cork I know.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭pa990

haven't tried The Abbot's , only cos i haven't been in the city centre for a while.. I'll try and have a look there tomorrow
