How much does the average city electrican earn in Perth. Also has anyone got experience working in the Mining Industry in Perth as a Electrican. I heard a few different stories, one is that the Mining Camps are drug riden, with tons of whores & massive crime. Then the other story is that its extremtly strict & if you get in a fight you are sacked & no drink is sold. Whats the mining industry like.

Im pre-approved to go to Oz on the points system. How do people find it when you go there on your own. I'm 22 with no attachments or reasons to stay in Ireland.

I am a Irish mining engineer and have worked at DIDO and FIFO site in WA and a residential site in QLD.

DIDO means Drive In Drive Out, FIFO fly in fly out. this define sthe transport method from site to civilisaton ie Perth. Kalgoorlie 6hr drive east of Perth would be residential for a tradie. That is you will be living working in town full of hairy arsed miners were the ratio of women to men will be something like 1:20.

Get a fifo job 8/6 or 2/1 8days on 6days off or 2 weeks on /1week off, try and get travel times in company time or youll loose 2 half days of your time off. also do not turn up at the airport pissed.

by the way Mount Isa the town in question has a big Irish influence and the biggest Irish club in the southern hemisphere.

The drugs booze and prozzies can be present depending on site, proximity to town and company. Most remote FIFO sites will have a wet mess (have apub) which usually have really inane rules about how much,when, how you can drink, what you can wear and get this where you can piss (i got well angry at this one and had to stand before the man the next day, camp manager was Irish so i was cool).

back in the day like 25yrs ago prozzies would be trucked in to the mine camps if the lads have surpassed their production rates. companies do not endorse this sorta things these days , theres a higher ratio of women to men miners these days, and some take offence at porn been displayed.

Your not supposed to bring your own booze to site , which doesnt stop people making stills out in the bush. theres heaps of specialised shops in Perth thatll sort you out with starter kits.

Dry sites would not be fun at all, although i did do a 5 week stint on one and noone was freaking out. anyway talk in the wet mess usually means reenacting the day bucket by bucket , truck by truck.

shift change day crews have a "pyjama day" and hit the turps, sometimes this can lead to someone be fired the next day, if anything gets discovered that they shouldnt have done.

bitter miners classify the girls on site as either frigid lessers or sluts, depending how they had been turned down. ahahaha

the longer you stay in the outback the better your chances of going tropo. ive seen it lads that used to do 13weeks on 2 days off at camp!! that again is back in the old days.
i used to do 2/1 FIFO ex Perth. i'd stay in backpackers in perth on the week off, go out every night.

you will have to pass drug and alcohol screening before you get the start. remember canaboids stay in the system for 30days or somthing. also in WA you need a Marcsta card that is piss easy 2 day course 150 bucks or something.

any sparkie thats looking for good money is in the mines . any sparkie that wants to pay for his accomodation, food and laundry, likes his weed or piss, enjoys less pay and an easy life works in Perth.

i recommend going out there with a Working Holiday Visa which can entitle you up to 2 years work permission out there. and allows you the oppurtunity tot try out different jobs before committing to a serious sponsership. sponsership is usually never unrestricted , usually you will be tied down by some clause and remember the saying "new in country , will work for less".

I recall meeting a wicklow lad in Perth who recruits tradeiis for the mines , forgrt his name duno if i still have his card.

theres also lots of HV lines work out in the bush, i remember a squad working arund navan back in 2005 were poached out to australia on heaps more money than ireland.
