    College gets scarier by the month, what with words like "iron fist" and "fail" being thrown around, at least we get a warning, but the mystery's a killer.

    Mathew - Got the lab out, working with the book and the program makes a big difference. I used tabs initially but they wanted it right alligned so it was setw ftw. They still said pad it out with spaces though, seemed like cheating in my books but I couldn't figure a better way so they win! Thanks for all the help anyway.

    Btw, using boards in the mac lab didn't go too well. It would load like a tenth of the page and just stop. Ghey.
    Nice one.. Best way to learn really... In theory you wont forget it now!! :P
    Never had a problem with boards in the mac lab tho.. Always seems to work..

    Baza, if you saved that file to the desktop of the mac, or to your file storage, you can get at it there..

    Boards works fine for me in the Mac lab.. better than in the PC lab as a matter of fact, the PC I was using yesterday didn't have JavaScript.
    JavaScript != Java

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

    I'm pretty sure it's JavaScript that's used for the drop down menus on boards..

    Maybe so, but a computer does not have 'javascript'
    A computer may have Java installed to allow running of Java apps... difference

    javaScript does not need a java virtual machine.

    Now nobody knows what's going on, so I declare victory. It's the Engineering thread after all.

    I've got a bit of a problem with this weeks computer assignment. I know how to do it I just don't understand what she's saying in the description of it:
    Frames come in two types- regular and fancy. The frames come in white and can be ordered in any colour the customer desires. Suppose that each frame is one inch wide. The cost of colouring the frame is €0.10 per inch. The cost of the regular frame is 0.15 per inch and the cost of a fancy frame is €0.25 per inch........

    the program should prompt the user to input the following information:

    a. the length and width in inches, of the picture.......
    ....

    when she says "The cost of colouring the frame is €0.10 per inch." does that mean the cost is (€0.10)x(perimeter of the frame)?
    also : "The cost of the regular frame is 0.15 per inch and the cost of a fancy frame is €0.25 per inch". does per inch here mean per inch perimeter?

    I've been reading this question over and over for about 30 mins and still can't decide what she means. what d'you think???

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 8,260 Mod ✭✭✭✭Jonathan

    Yea. It means the perimeter.

    Bloody WileyPlus, it's ghey!

    Well it's not too bad really, but I just got done a couple of times. It asked for the answer to two decimal places so I answered .66 and 0.66, only to recieve two big Xs and it turns out the correct answer was 2/3. Just me or was that misleading? Also htf do you enter the infinity symbol without the snazzy text editor, it's not in the regular syntax set!

    What off-topicness is this?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 8,260 Mod ✭✭✭✭Jonathan

    Mmmm...ok, off topicness.

    Anyone here watch heroes? New series is pretty good right?

    That should be off topic enough to squeeze in one more eng comment;
    WileyPlus officially sucks balls, page load error for the last hour and half before the deadline. WTF!

    Interesting. Why didn't I hear of this MSDNAA while I was actually a student? A few spare copies of XP wouldn't go amiss.
